WOW!! I just love your use of the Kaffe Fassett fabrics - I always find myself a bit intimidated by so much bright color and pattern. I love the quilt but I do think maybe a solid border in one of the deep blues or pink/reds would pull it all together nicely. Great job with your quilt!!
WOW!! is that quilt beautiful. I agree, I'd just add the red binding. Happy Holidays!!
That is a very pretty quilt, and quite complicated. I think a dark outer border would help set off the light colored border. But it's also very nice as-is.
Do you have enuf red from the center star to add a narrow strip (like you have between borders) before binding?
I say leave..instincts are always right! I have to say though..I absolutley love your quilt! I love all those KAffe fabrics!
I don't know if it needs more borders. I just keep looking at the beautiful colors and pattern.
I agree; it's beautiful and the yellow does lighten it - I think the red border will make it perfect.
I'd leave it the way it is. A red binding will set it off. Almost finished gal! Keep up the good work. It's beautiful. A winner for sure.
The red binding will be a nice finishing touch.

The darker border will frame the whole quilt, and then the lights will REALLY sparkle. |
either way beautiful. If ur fast at piecing and not tired of the quilt, add the blu border. Otherwise it is very beautiful as is. Ur eye for colors is wonderful.
My vote is for no more borders, it look perfect just like it is. I agree the red binding would be nice.
Beautiful! Love the colors!
I agree, a darker border will frame it. Beautiful quilt.

Ms. Phyllis: "I would add a small dark blue or red border and then use that same color as the binding.
Reason being - it will make it stand out more as mentioned above it sort of fades out against a wall. Also because a border will hold all your end seams together for when you quilt it, or have it quilted"... I agree with this. This is just a beautiful quilt...not only your pattern but your eye for color and the way you've put it all together is awesome! Did you design this or is there a pattern you went by? Definitely going on my bucket list! ;-) |
I was agreeing with MTS
I vote for a small red border. I think that will make the center POP!
It is beautiful as it is , but I love borders, and think you can never have too many. So that being said , do what speaks to you.

Looks great to me as is.
I would add a blue border and also bind it in the same color. It will look finished. It is a beautiful quilt.
Can you put the dark blue on an edge (maybe just pin it on) - just to take a picture & let us see that?
I think I would bring the blue back out -either as a narrow border or the binding.
I vote for the narrow dark blue border too -- sorta says, "This is the end." Love the fabrics and layout!
Being a former quilt judge I would say that you need a not too wide dark border. It will "frame" your quilt. Now, when I first looked at it I had to squint to really see your last light border.
Good luck in your decision. It's a beautigul quilt no matter what you do!!! Happy Holidays. Kutnso |
Beautiful as is, Red binding would be perfect!

I like as is.
I think it's gorgeous just like it is!
i would add a narrow (1 " - 2") border in one of the colors but in a darker shade to 'contain' the colors. i would bind it in the same color as the border. that's just me.
beautiful work. how long did it take you to make it? |

I'm pretty impressed with the size of her collection of thse fabrics. I thought you, and those following this thread, might also find it interesting. Hi all,
Wow, thank you for the responses! It is so interesting to read everyone's thoughts, and I can't wait to finish up the quilt. Yes, the quilt will (hopefully) be shown at the Empire Quilt Guild's show in March in NYC. Hope everyone in the area can make it! As for your thoughts, I will audition red and blue colors for the border/binding. I agree that it needs something dark on the edge for the last border to "pop," but I want to keep the same look as the quilt has now. I may add a narrow border and bind it in the same color, so it looks uniform. Alternatively, I was thinking about just making an ultra-wide binding for the same effect. I'll post photos when I'm done...thanks for the great advice! |
Can't wait to see it finushed!
Simply gorgeous just as is....Add a red binding and it will sing!
Roxanne |
You need something to finish it, the yellow is pretty but your eyes are drawn inward to the blue. The yellow is lost. Red and blue would make it complete.
I think just red binding is all you need...it's beautiful
:-P |
Right now - as is, the center draws your eye right in. I think a blue border would spoil that. I'd just bind it. Great job. Hope you win a ribbon!
It is perfect as is. Trying to add another border would be too confusing.
it is great with no border. What you might do it lauy the quilt on a strip of fabric and see how you like it. Audition a couple of fabrics, with just enough showing to look like a border. Sometimes borders of a single fabric look great as they kind of stop the busy appearance of pieced borders. , never know till you lay it out and look
It is beautiful, would call it finished
