Personally, I would add the darker pieced border.

And here's why -
The quilt is great as it is, but look how the light border just disappears, even against the wall. It fades out. The darker border will frame the whole quilt, and then the lights will REALLY sparkle.

I agree with MTS. It does need a darker border IMHO. Beautiful quilt!

Me too! I love your quilt!

Below is a photo of my quilt in its current state (it measures about 70 inches by 70 inches). Do I stop adding borders and keep it as is, or should I add one more border? I was planning on adding a dark blue pieced border as the final one, but I like how the yellow border makes the quilt look so "sparkly." I am tempted to keep it as is and just add a red binding for a touch of color at the edge. I am worried that a dark blue border may make it too somber, but it might tie everything together.

I'd love to hear any thoughts or advice! Thanks!

I would go with the dark blue border and binding. I think it would draw the eyes back into the center of the quilt.

I love it as it is. I hope when I grow up I can make quilts like that!

shopbelt 12-22-2010 07:08 PM

My vote is to bind it now, It looks finished. I love the quilt just the way it is!

TexasSunshine 12-22-2010 07:21 PM

Red binding.

nonnie60 12-22-2010 07:36 PM

Just add a small binding and call it quits. It's perfect.

I saw the same thing & when you look at the left lower side where the darker wall behind the quilt looks like a border, it makes that yellow pop!

Tudey 12-22-2010 08:19 PM

Personally, I would leave it as is, but use a darker, solid for the binding to kind of "stop" it, if you know what I mean.

Chili Lady 12-22-2010 08:33 PM

:-) I agree with the others. You put a lot of work in your quilt, it is very very nice. I'm like you, I sometimes don't know when to stop. Great job.

IBQUILTIN 12-22-2010 08:36 PM

I agree with ihavelka

Agree!! Audition, take pics, lay out the blue against the yellow outer border and than compare.

I agree here too, add the blue, narrower, to frame in and set off the yellow sparkly border and the whole beautiful quilt!!

katcincinnati 12-22-2010 09:44 PM

I love it as is. I think one more might be one too much.

needles3thread 12-22-2010 10:10 PM

I would leave the quilt as is unless you need a bigger size.

penski 12-22-2010 10:53 PM

your quilt is beautiful , i dont think it need another border

Momof3Es 12-22-2010 11:24 PM

I like the red idea!

I agree. The light border will be framed & stand out more.

nana pat 12-23-2010 12:14 AM

It is beautiful as is, but personally , I would put a blue border to keep your eye from going from the center and out of the picture because there is the light border that lets your eye leave the piece. You have done an awesome job so far and it will look wonderful whatever you decide. I am looking forward to see the finished quilt. Merry Christmas.

K.P. 12-23-2010 04:02 AM

I was taught that the darker fabrics should be in the outer border, so I agree you need a dark border on the outside, blue would be beautiful and really show off the yellow border.

I agree 100%

Joyce Ann 12-23-2010 12:02 PM

It is beautiful just as it is.

Connie Merritt 12-23-2010 02:14 PM

Use the dark border. It will set off the final border better so it does not look sort of undone. The quilt is beautiful and your colors are great. Congrats.

theresa.redington 12-24-2010 11:35 AM

I like it the way that it is with the keyboard border. Maybe do the binding in the dark blue??????

ljptexas 12-24-2010 12:08 PM

It's very, very pretty & colorful just as it is!!

Well good luck with this choice. I love what you ahve done with this quilt so far. I too think a darker red boarder/binding would be great but really it will just depend on what idea you best like. Please post what you did in the end - I would love to see it.

jdeery 12-25-2010 06:00 PM

I think a great finish would be a black border, bind in red.
It would make it an art piece and frame it nicely.

jdavis 01-06-2011 04:24 PM

This is gorgeous!

pamesue 01-06-2011 04:37 PM

no more borders...it is great...I agree with a red binding.

Amen to this. The binding needs to make the pale border pop.
Beautiful quilt!

daisey 01-06-2011 04:51 PM

Perfect

purple_butterfly 01-06-2011 05:39 PM

Beautiful!! Great colour choices, I love Kaffe Fassett fabrics. With or without an extra border it will still be gorgeous ;-) (not much help am I :? )

nativetexan 01-06-2011 05:42 PM

I'd like to see some red brought out to a border. nothing pieced.

auntmag 01-06-2011 06:09 PM

I would add one more blue border.
