What's GMFG? which ones? Most of what I'm using is leftover from Judy Neimeyer project (Hawaiian star)

Mousie 05-19-2011 07:17 PM

woo hoo, look at those outer elipses! love the double colored centers, Rox! way to go
i think GMFG is grandmother's flower garden. hope so ;)

I’m very happy to have twelve blocks completed. I love this fabric and I’m happy with this block.

JudyG 06-06-2011 07:14 AM

As always, Lisa, your work is magnificent. Your quilt is going to be awesome.

Mousie 06-06-2011 05:18 PM

 wow, who knew you could do so much with one fabric? I love the colors :-D

sandpat 06-06-2011 05:58 PM

And why wouldn't you be happy with that block, geesh...I would be over the moon for it! Its lovely. Amazing what you are doing with the 1 fabric. :D:

I am on a roll(love having the bobbin work done already)..so I realized that since I am using the same colors for my hearts, I can consolidate/cheat  It turned out allright I think.

JudyG 06-12-2011 03:45 PM

Beautiful, Candi.

sandpat 06-13-2011 04:26 AM

Well, yes you can!! What a smartie you are! It looks just great that way! Your bobbin work is really lookin' good...you picked that up so quickly too, great job!

candi 06-13-2011 04:41 AM

Thanks Judy and Pat.

Roxanne 06-13-2011 05:39 AM

Candi,
I'm having another duh moment......How clever (and time saver) plus looks great to boot..... I'm so anal, I never think of these things , I have to wait and see it then copy someone else!

Mousie 06-13-2011 05:54 AM

mmm, candi, these colors are going to play so well with the others, woo hoo.
The wonderful thing about all the clever things you all come up with...we all learn for future use.
Course I don't see meece-self trying the bobbin work just yet.
I'm curious...what makes doing it from the bobbin, so different?
Your sewing from the back side right?
Somebody really ought to come up with a stem stitch look alike on these machines,...but then...the mouse would have to have a new machine,...can't do that! (need fabrics and notions more...and grandbaby outings!!! :XD: )

Roxanne, it just occurred to me yesterday...here I was cutting all the hearts out from the same fabric..why not make it one hearty flower? It looks ok on this block I think.

Mousie, I am using a metallic DMC thread, double strand, no way to put it through the needle and that is why it goes in the bobbin. Yes, you work from the back. It is a little like machine applique, you are following lines and curves, the most difficult part about it is that you can't see your applique pieces so I have a couple of blocks where the embroidery lines don't play too nicely with the appliqué. I am finding it much easier to do the bobbin work first because then I can appliqué my pieces forcing them to play nice with bobbin work already in place. and I think the double strand bobbin work looks a lot like the stem stitch, I have been meaning to play with it using some decorative stitches, but these skeins are expensive, lol, so I have To find something cheaper to play with :XD:

Mousie 06-13-2011 02:59 PM

that's good info, candi. I'm just not that brave a mouse.
When I first started quilting...
It took me forty forevers to cut my fabric...I'm talking months!
I had been sewing since I was 10!
Just hate messing things up, but it's been a real learning experience with quilting.
Ye shall mess up, and you shall learn to live with it and go forward if you want to quilt.
Good thing you can also make quilts out of scraps :XD:

sandpat 06-13-2011 04:55 PM

Well, miss mouse, thats what they mean when talking about lemonade!

Well Mousie, you have me beat by a long shot..I just learned how to operate the sewing machine three years ago and just bought my first sewing machine two years ago...never sewed a thing in my life before that first quilt. If hand embroidery works for you, which from the look of your block it looks like it does, it is great! But if you are wanting to try bobbin work, I am sure you'll do awesome!

if you think about it logically, candi...what if you had been sewing since age 10?
Your already 8-) , look how long it took me to get to the point I'm struggling with now? ;-)

Jeannie, Patti's current avatar is Phydeaux. Tom is a very lovesick black cat. She is hosting both a funky cat swap & a funky dawg swap. Both of these characters are 2 of her creations for that. I know how hard to it is to come into the middle of a conversation, but the wonderful thing about this Board & the people who are here - we don't mind & we will help get you caught up in the action!!!

Thanks so very much, luv!
Wasn't Tom, the black kitty avitar, swaying to a lovesong, or looking through a fishbowl ? If you pronounce "Phydeaux" fast - well !!!!LOL!
In any case, ITs a real cutie pie!
...and luv, you don't know it but I sent in some shoecats to the FC swap, and will send in some shoedogs to the FD swap...The whole thing is a wonderful laugh, and I enjoyed it immensly! There is a photo of a shoecat in the FC swap pages too...I am currently contemplating how to arrange some of my Funky Cat blocks that I got back into two wallhangings. One around a kelly green tie-togther color.
I am so glad that I found this board, and it is people like you that make it special!
Jeannie
Ps, I was just lurking - because the blocks are so pretty. I just don't have time for everything I would like to do. :-)

sandpat 06-24-2011 04:35 AM

Yes, you are right...Tom was the black kitty avatar that I used right before this one~ Phydeaux.

The other day, I was wondering how the shoedogs were coming! :)

Thanks for asking...I am in the process of making some "Shaply sheep" for the Funky Farms,...and a surprise too. I know what it is - fun...but I'm not telling yet.
And you will get shoedogs from me!
Whew...I may be 81, but I still know when I see a cute puppy! Y'all had me wondering for a while! LOL!

My computer just would not respond so here I am again. Hope I can get block 21 on here. Sorry now it has gone in twice-computers at times seem to have a mind all their own.

Jammin' Jane 06-24-2011 12:59 PM

All the blocks are so pretty. They are going to make beautiful quilts! I am anticipating seeing them when they are finished!

QuiltswithConvicts 06-24-2011 02:04 PM

Flossy, another beautiful block. You are quite experienced at hand applique, aren't you? It shows in your lovely work. Can't wait to see the next one - &&&& - when you get the center 16 done & together!

Mousie 06-24-2011 04:25 PM

hi, taking my meds like a good mouse, but only messing and gauming with the fabrics, on 'rest' orders and don't really have any energy.
ok, so much for mousie updates.
florence, your block is super yummy, gf!

sandpat 06-24-2011 04:43 PM

well, messing and gauming...you know...I'm not sure if that is a REAL word, but you know what they say:
"what you believe IS your reality."
gauming is a little like putzing, finagling...slightly different meaning there...playing...you get the gist ;-)
If you use the phrase and your talking about children...somebody's being a little naughty :-)
I think of it as doing something while in your own little world...not trying to be real productive, but actually having peace of mind and contentment is quite an accomplishment.
Geesh,...even a mild fever can't keep this mouse quiet for long
