Definitely a Ricky Tims look - Beautiful color and movement!! I love the quilting she did - very simple (radiating lines) that promote the movement of the applique.

The topic of over quilting has become bigger over the last few years especially with the advancement of the longarm machines and addition of computerized systems - When quilting myself, I can get carried away but have learned to ask what the quilt is for. Just asking that question helps me keep the amount and style of quilting in line. If I am doing a single design for a pillow top that I want to stand out, you can bet that the background will be heavily quilted in some way so that the design pops - will do faux trapunto over the real trapunto. If it is a cute little baby quilt I will select designs that provide even overall quilting that will stand up to lots of washings. I love seeing the over-the-top quilts at shows. Quilting has become such a beautiful art form. The thread painting done on the longarm by Sue Paton is breathtaking, the tiny, perfectly shaped feathers on some quilts are to die for, the perfectly stitched lines that are no more than 1/8" apart are amazing. I think it is so fantastic that the variety of quilting is there for us to enjoy and drool over.

Fantastic, thank you.

I am one who often thinks some are over-quilted, but I wouldn't say that about this one. I love, love, love the pattern. But, wow. . that's a big undertaking. Gorgeous!

It's very much like Ricky Tim's work. I am looking at some of his and they are super close. His are all done with this very fine adh. Web. Beautiful though and the quilting only adds to the beauty.

My first thought was Ricky Tims too. What a fabulous quilt!! It seems that many applique quilts have close machine quilting, especially if they are in shows.

It's when I see applique like that, is when I want to learn how to do it so badly. Even if I knew how, I'm sure that would of taken me several lifetimes and then some. Wow!

nannyrick 04-22-2012 04:05 PM

I would say that it is perfectly quilted, the pattern of quilting mimics the pattern of the applique. Can't imagine anyone doing all that needle-turn. Fantastic.

MaryAnnMc 04-23-2012 04:11 AM

That's an incredible quilt! And I'm wondering, too, why no ribbons?

quiltaroni 04-23-2012 04:47 AM

This is absolutely amazing!! I would really love to try something like this. Does anyone know the name of the pattern? I tried to zoom in on the tag to see if it was on there but I can't read it.

bunbytes 04-23-2012 05:52 AM

I am awestruck! I could only hope to create something this lovely.

GramaLaura 04-23-2012 06:22 AM

Thanks for sharing. The quilt is breathtaking :)

DonnaQuilts 04-23-2012 06:41 AM

I find applique is rather theraputic for the nerves, not the opposite. All the tension flows out of the ends of your fingers. Sometimes it can be beautiful too.

DonnaQuilts 04-23-2012 06:43 AM

I would have done something more lyrical to accent the design, not cross it at angles.

I used your idea to zoom in and I think I could see Quilter's Newsletter and maybe Fabric Fandango. I have some old Quilters Newsletters I plan to check later. I keep coming back to this thread because the more I look at this quilt the more amazing it is to me.

solstice3 04-23-2012 06:54 AM

that is amazing

Halfsquare 04-23-2012 07:05 AM

The applique work is absolutely above superior. It is so difficult to be so precise with hand work. This woman is an experienced master.

gollytwo 04-23-2012 07:10 AM

I hope it was a prize winner

The quilting is not fancy. It's just lines and doesn't interfer with the beautiful work of the quilter. I see here work and design first and the quilting is staying in the background supporting the work....well done...

TFquilter 04-23-2012 07:46 AM

Amazing is right...what a beautiful quilt and wonderful colors..:)
