Wowser! Awesome quilt!

Rubesgirl 04-21-2012 04:52 PM

That is gorgeous, but I can't even begin to imagine how someone made that! I know . . . my instructor keeps telling me, one block at a time . . . but even so . . . WOW!

quilter1943 04-21-2012 04:52 PM

That is amazing. It doesn't show any ribbons. I would have thought it would have won a lot. Great design and use of color as well as quilting.

cheaha39 04-21-2012 04:54 PM

OMG!!! That's a quilt, I sure hope it was a prize winner...

Juztme 04-21-2012 04:59 PM

I forgot to add that most of it is applique work. :)

TanyaL 04-21-2012 05:01 PM

I know what you mean about over quilting but to me this one is not over quilted--it still looks soft and supple. This is a great quilt. I wonder how long it took them to do it?

Tartan 04-21-2012 07:49 PM

It is beautiful! I watched the Patsy Thompson video on using the sissix(sp) machine and she cut some vine florishes with fusible on them. I wonder if that's what she used to get her perfect pieces?

heather1949 04-21-2012 11:56 PM

Now thats a very stunning quilt.

Dotha 04-22-2012 12:58 AM

Yes, I agree, over quilted. Takes away from all that beautiful applique.

pls1946 04-22-2012 03:08 AM

That is a beautiful work of art....I, too, tend to like a less quilting look, but seems for shows everything is quilted quite heavily....

catladyquilts 04-22-2012 03:30 AM

that is gorgeous - a true work of art

Drue 04-22-2012 04:04 AM

That was my first thought too. Wowzer!!!

DogHouseMom 04-22-2012 04:54 AM

That is seriously gorgeous!! I tried to get in close to see what kind of applique (needle turn? hand? raw edge machine? I can't tell). I don't think it was over quilted at all - I think the quilting design was just right.

I too am surprised there are no ribbons on it.

I want to add that yesterday I was at Navy Pier in Chicago and looking at the Stained Glass museum and I took several pictures thinking "quilting designs" and quite a few remind me of this quilt. Way beyond my capability but I'm glad someone was able to do it to (perhaps) inspire me.

thanks for sharing.

LynnM 04-22-2012 05:02 AM

That is an amazing quilt. Absolutly stunning. I don't think it was over quilted. The quilting took absolutly nothing from the design. Just starting to get into some applique myself. Maybe some day I will do something equally as stunning! Thanks for sharing. Also hoping to make it to a large quilt show some day. I just love seeing everyones creations!

nunnyJo 04-22-2012 05:10 AM

that is amazing, quilted like rays of light

debcavan 04-22-2012 05:13 AM

mighty 04-22-2012 05:30 AM

Boy is that pretty!!!

hobo2000 04-22-2012 05:36 AM

It's very much like Ricky Tim's work. I am looking at some of his and they are super close. His are all done with this very fine adh. Web. Beautiful though and the quilting only adds to the beauty.

BizzieLizzie 04-22-2012 05:58 AM

Absolutely stunning! Gorgeous!!!! The quilting complements the design - simple, uncomplicated. I can see where some quilts are quilted heavily and can detract from the design but I think that this one has been done in good taste. Quilting in itself is its own art and not everyone can quilt beautifully either by hand or machine. We should applaud the effort. One person's taste may not appeal to another. Thank you for sharing the picture. It is lovely.

I only asked the question. I don't personally think it is over quilted.

What an incredible work of art! Thanks so much for sharing this beauty.

vintage hat 04-22-2012 08:21 AM

Stunning quilt. I believe the strong, close quilting strengthens/texturizes the mosaic composition. Colors are beautifully selected for this appealing design. Thanks for sharing this quilt artist's work.
