Another condolence cut work quilt

I made this quilt for a man at church, it is of his Mom, whom we have known for about 30 years. It told him I do this instead of sympathy cards. He really liked it.

A few questions. Do you use batting in any of these art works. Since this picture doesn't have binding how do you do the seams. All of your work is beautiful.
