I finished this pattern from JeanneS, the finished quilt measuring approx. 70" x 56" and decided I would have a try at quilting a spiral. I lost count after bobbin number 8 and needle number 3 and have never been so pleased to have finished a quilt!

Wow, love your quilt and the quilting is fabulous, excellent job on both!!! I have this quilt pattern saved as on my short list to finish a few this year, it's a lovely design.

Boston1954 09-16-2017 02:35 AM

It looks terrific. Did you have much trouble with it bunching up on itself?

Moonglow 09-16-2017 03:38 AM

Wonderful result. This pattern is on my 'to do' list too.

TheMerkleFamily 09-16-2017 03:57 AM

The overall finished quilt is just beautiful! Your workmanship is superb! Very, very nice!

Well, I did have one fold/pleat in my backing which went unnoticed until I had done about 18 rounds :( so I had to go back and unpick about 2" of each round to fix it...totally my own fault for being too gunho and not being careful when I turned the work. To make sure that didn't happen again I got into a rhythm of using my right hand underneath to feel for a smooth backing each time I readjusted the work and I also put a clothes peg in a particular spot on the outer edge so I would know when I had sewn a complete "circuit" or two and then I would flip my work over and check what I had just sewn. The further out I sewed the easier it got.

anonymous 09-16-2017 05:17 AM

OOh, but it was all worth it. Absolutely lovely.

lynnie 09-16-2017 05:26 AM

beautiful!! what wonderful quiltings. it's amazing the way you quilted it and in such tiny circles.

KLO 09-16-2017 05:48 AM

Beautiful quilt! I really like the colors and fabrics you used. Can I assume that you did the quilting with a walking foot? It all just makes such a wonderful and eye catching quilt. Love it!

Doggramma 09-16-2017 06:04 AM

Really great quilt! Nice spiral job

Ariannaquilts 09-16-2017 07:16 AM

Did you take Jacquie Gering class on walking foot quilting? I also made JeanneS quilt pattern but when I tried the spiral quilting it was on a 12" sq I just couldn't get to work right. But you did a fabulous job on your quilt.

JuneBillie 09-16-2017 07:24 AM

Your quilt is so pretty, and very pretty circular quilting.

Your quilting lines are so perfect! You must have a very good method. :o

YC Quilter 09-16-2017 11:32 AM

Beautiful quilt and great stitching! The circles look so even. Did you use mono filament thread?

rryder 09-16-2017 11:33 AM

Well done! I really like the spiral quilting with the rectangular piecing.

red-warrior 09-16-2017 12:56 PM

Great quilt and quilting!

mucky 09-16-2017 02:10 PM

I want to try this quilting method. So attractive.

ruby2shoes 09-16-2017 03:14 PM

Thankyou everyone for your kind comments. Yes, I did do it with my ordinary walking foot, yes, I did watch a couple of you-tubes on spiral quilting and one craftsy class, and no, the quilting isn't that even and lovely....in some places it wobbles quite a bit but looking at it from afar it's not that noticeable!! We are, afterall, humans not machines. lol. And yes, I quilted it on the new Juki which is just the "bomb" as far as I'm concerned! That machine just ploughs along with a smile on its face and the little bit extra in "harp height" well and truly makes up for the slightly smaller harp width compared to the 710.

Fotoula 09-16-2017 03:49 PM

Hi ruby2shoes, I love the quilting on this. Can you give some more details on how you did it? Domestic or longarm? If longarm how did you mount and keep a continuous circle? Etc. etc. If you still have the quilt, could you lay it flat and take a photo, showing the quilting more? Thank you!!!
