I'd go with a ligher color - not sure WHAT lighter color - but it would really make the blocks stand out if you sash them.....hmmmm???
I'd use some sort of rosey color as sashing. Really pretty blocks.
Look at the way you have put the blocks together. There is WHITE between! It looks beautiful. You might do that, thin white between, and then border it with a black and white binding. Stunning!!! Why not show off the individul blocks as you have??????? You might even put four tassles on the corners to complete a victorian look.
Green or gold or perhaps a lavendar.
Beautiful blocks, yes go with the sashing. It will bring out each block.
I think green would make the fans pop.

Therefore, my suggestion would be to not decide til you are to that point. In the meantime, see how it comes together and audition the variables til you need to make the decision. My first thought was to go for no sashing and let the fans float on the fabric. Then as I read the comments, I started to think of the darkest rose or green to keep the sashing subtle. You want the fans to pop and not lose them with an overpowering sashing. As has oft been said here ... remember it's your quilt and there's no rules! Do what pleases you!! |
I would line the blocks with a border of black and then continue with a color of your choice. The black will be seen because of the seams making that distance so that the color will not make such a large inpact. Yet the color will be seen as am accent to the entire project.
I really think the lighter green would really make those wonderful blocks stand out! I think anything brighter would detract from the blocks..Looks wonderful can't wait to see it done!
A fine stripe, in a metalic fabric, on the diagonal as sashing, would showcase the fans. Hope you post it when it's done. Happy Quilting!
 I love it ! I would without doubt frame each block that way it looks like each block is in a picture frame and I would say to try different colors till you found one that looks very nice with each block . Good luck from a newbie.

Definitely would use sashing to make them stand out individually.

Your blocks are beautiful. |
I would use the darkest tone of green available in the green in your blocks and I would use a vibrant gold for corner stones.I would keep the width of the sashing at one in. finished widith .
I think it would really look pretty with pink sashing and then black binding! Please show us when you're done!
What about a deep cherry red between the blocks? Think it might make the fans really stand out. Just a thought.
With so many votes for green and gold, have you thought about doing an attic window frame on these squares? It always makes the blocks pop. Just another option to play with.
WHAT EXACTLY IS AN ATTIC WINDOW?

I think pink-just the right shade-not too pale and not too bright, or maybe a periwinkle or lavendar.
i think a very small green the green would add just enough with out taking away from the fans
thanks to all for ideas, thoughts, etc. I am off to look for: greens, fan tassels and something for the binding. Not quite sur eon thatg part, either
Very different..but beautiful...

i think the color of green that is in your block would look good
or if that is pink in the block that might work |
I like the idea of gold sashing.
Beautiful blocks, but if you don't sash it will appear as 1 large piece of fabric and the blocks will be lost.
Green that is in the fabric would look great! |
Have you considered using a rose color baetween them. That would be my vote.

I agree. I'd go with green or gold sashing to set off the blocks. Your blocks are beautiful.
Sashing yes!
Both green and gold would definitely work... however, the look that each would give would be different... gold = elegance, green = bright. Either way it will be beautiful!!! |
I think I would audition some different colors that are in the fans and see what looks best to you
It calls "pink" in my head. Hard to say on the green because the other tones in the fans don't show up well in the pic.
have you tried lilac? from the photos every fan seems to have a touch of lilac. Try it out and see
I think gold in between would set off the blocks perfectly.
You will probably think I am crazy, but I think black sashing might be good. The blocks are so beautiful and I wonder if a colored sashing might take away from the block centers. Just sewing the blocks together w/o sashing might look too plain. Again, sort of crazy. Come to think of it, I did a quilt with a black background that had your colors in the block centers and I used black sashing. I really liked it.
