Well, I am torn. I think it needs either green or gold between the blocks but I also kinda like it with nothing. Thoughts from the group, please.

lheartsl 04-19-2011 08:10 AM

yes something between.....

feline fanatic 04-19-2011 08:12 AM

I think it needs sashing. What color you need to audition it out. I would not go without sashing on those beautiful fan blocks. You want them framed so the eye will be compelled to flow from block to block and rest on individual fans.

dixiebelle162002 04-19-2011 08:12 AM

I'm personally a fan of using some green in between the blocks. I think it would really bring out the colors you are using.

Carron 04-19-2011 08:13 AM

I think the gold would be a good choice, however depending on the shade of green that might be good too. Audit them. I would make the sashing very narrow.

Jenni M 04-19-2011 08:13 AM

I kinda like the thought of golds. They are so elegant!

mimom 04-19-2011 08:17 AM

its very pretty, and I am as stumped as you are about the sashing, sorry

OKLAHOMA PEACH 04-19-2011 08:21 AM

The blocks are beautiful, I would use pink for sashing, lets see some auditioning.

Not sure about the pink but you should try out a few colours just lay a colour under the squares if you don't like it pick another till you do. looking forward the the final results

BeeNana 04-19-2011 08:42 AM

I think green sashing would be good.
The green or any sashing that you use I would
not have it so overly bright as to take away
from those gorgeous blocks.
Moss green might work.

Quilter7x 04-19-2011 08:44 AM

Why not use a narrow border of the fabric in the fans? If you did it real narrow (about a 1/2" finished, it would compliment the fans rather than take away from them.

Your blocks are beautiful.

CajunQuilter2 04-19-2011 08:48 AM

Beautiful. Definately needs sashing, gold might make it look very elegant. Try some out of both green and gold and see which one you like best.
Good luck!

ann clare 04-19-2011 08:51 AM

Beautiful blocks. I like gold.

I thought of pink also.

donnaree59 04-19-2011 08:58 AM

I think I'd either go with green or gold sashing.... I like the way sashing generally sets off the blocks. These blocks are gorgeous!

I agree with green, but you'll know after you audition using fan fabric print, or pink, or gold, in a narrow sashing. Blocks are beautiful-keep them the focus.

My thoughts exactly.

craftybear 04-19-2011 09:19 AM

beautiful, gold would be so pretty

TerryQuilter 04-19-2011 09:46 AM

Needs sashing, but the color is up to you. IMO gold would really make those fans pop.

Painiacs 04-19-2011 10:11 AM

Gold would be great! If I had enuf of the gold I just used on an oriental quilt I'd send it to u! Love it! Did u make pattern up? If not would u pm me the name? Have tons of oriental scraps and fab left!!!

MaRanda 04-19-2011 10:29 AM

Beautiful fans!! I would use gold sashing! Can't wait to see it finished!

Teapots and Quilts 04-19-2011 10:34 AM

I think a light green would be perfect.

GrammaBabs 04-19-2011 10:36 AM

Always marching to another drummer... LOL
I would piece them as is and do some nice decorative stitching down each side of the seams... in color of choice... for me it would be cream, silver grey, or gold...just a thought! B

macygma 04-19-2011 10:40 AM

well, I bought the fabric pre-cut on ebay so there is no more. I was thinking green or gold because that's already in there and would be simpler to match. I really like the fans, though!

Afton 04-19-2011 10:41 AM

I would do a very thin pink, or red

Tartan 04-19-2011 10:43 AM

Guess I'm diferent also. I like the black as is. It makes the fans float and will leave a nice area for elaborate quilting when the blocks are joined. A nice tassel hanging from each fan would also be nice. Then I would use the floral for a wide border.

Sadiemae 04-19-2011 11:27 AM

I agree with auditioning many different fabrics. Sometimes you will be surprised as to which makes it just perfect!

Prissnboot 04-19-2011 11:35 AM

May be going against the majority here, but the insets may stand out more without sashing.....

I Agree

maryb119 04-19-2011 12:16 PM

I would make some of the fan blocks and the audition some colors for the sashing. They will look different when they are sewn.

lyndaloo 04-19-2011 12:24 PM

It will be beautiful which ever color you choose. I immediately thought "Pink!" but I'm partial to pink. Gorgeous blocks!

LAB55 04-19-2011 12:48 PM

Blocks are beautiful !! :-D
Sashing for sure, but color I'm not sure, :-(

CarrieAnne 04-19-2011 12:50 PM

So pretty!

4EVERquilt 04-19-2011 12:51 PM

Go with the Gold!!!!

debcavan 04-19-2011 02:08 PM

I like the idea of the green. Are your blocks ever gorgeous

sassy granny 04-19-2011 05:42 PM

PINK!!!!!

piepatch 04-20-2011 03:41 AM

I don't have a suggestion about sashing, but I think your blocks are very pretty !

Unless you already have the colors, I would buy just a couple inch strips of green, gold and perhaps a couple of other colors that is in the blocks just to test it. I do think it need something in between too. Your blocks are very pretty.

Carol Wilson 04-20-2011 03:51 AM

Definately green, don't use pink as there is enough pink in the blocks.

pieces 04-20-2011 04:12 AM

What about a pink fabric for a narrow sashing.
The pink will carry the pink from the fans.
Pink and black make a great combination for this quilt.
And use a pink/black print fabric for the border.
Use black for the binding.
