Baby bedding I'm working on
6 Attachment(s)
I needed to take a break from all the cutting so thought I would share my progress here. I'm working on a baby bedding set for a girl I've known since we were 5 and 8 years old. We grew up performing together and her brother was my dance partner for many years. She's been dancing and performing on broadway and touring in shows the last several years but is now having her first baby, a girl named Scarlette Rose. Anyway, she picked out fabrics and I offered to make her custom bedding as my gift to her.
Here are the fabrics she picked: Here is what she wanted her bedding to be loosely designed to look like: I just finished the bedskirt. Took me forever to cut the scalloped edging all the way around the skirt trim. I am pleased with the look so far, but after staring at those stripes for so long, I'd love some opinions on whether or not it is too busy. I've never sewn with the minky before so I'm not exactly looking forward to that part but otherwise should be a pretty simple assembly of everything else. What do y'all think? That is seriously the cutest ruffle I have ever seen. haha I was totally expecting you to do it the other way so it more matched the inspiration picture but wow it's so cute it's like those little fairy skirts with the individual petals with beads on the end of them. Thats what the ruffle reminds me of anyways.

Will do. I'm still trying to decide how I want to do the quilt. Her name is Scarlette Rose and I have a hand embroidered block with a rose on it to incorporate. I think I'm going to do a pillow also and monogram it with her initials.
|
Wow, gorgeous. What an undertaking! You are very ambitious and generous and creative! Outstanding!

It will be beautiful! I just went through all that for my DIL and new grandson, with stripes and polkadots. Just don't sit for too long in front of it without a break from time to time.
|
The bed skirt is adorable! The fabric choices are perfect.
I have sewn with minky -I made some baby quilts with squares of minky, chenille and cotton quilt fabric -it can stretch just take your time also I have used minky on the back of baby quilts and it works great on the back. |
very pretty!!!!

Your scallops look great. Can't wait to see the rest!
|
Wow, awesome bedding. I love the scalloped edge. What a lucky little girl. I hope you'll post again when your all done.
I hope you get some helpful tips. Minky can be tricky to work with. You might want to google it. I think you'll find some great info. (I've never worked with it myself.) |
This is so beautiful & different.:)
|
I would have a hard time with that much black and white for a baby... I must be getting old. I think current baby styles have passed me by. You are a sweet friend to sew all this for her! I hope you enjoy doing it.
|
Beautifullllllllllllllllllll, love the color choice. That is going to one darn cute baby room. Looking good. Post as you go please. I have sewn with minky on my brothers, but my Husqvarna is not fond of it. Or maybe it is the operator.
|
A very thoughtful gift. Not sure I care for the black fabrics for a baby girl though. (?)
|
With Minkee, I was told to use a walking foot, 1/2 inch seams, put together a stretchy piece with a non-stretchy piece as I was working with a kit. I loved how it all turned out even though my seams did not all match. love your fabric picks and hope you post a pic when you are finished.

Wow this is absolutely amazing
