Well I finally finished this quilt. it has been so slow as both DH and myself have been unwell since Christmas- I was even too ill to visit Ruby(my machine :o) and have not been online for a while either.
Soo I finally decided to use the Minky fabric on the back and finished the free motion quilting myself as best as I could. The quilt was very heavy to manouvre! Anyway I posted up a few pics of the finished quilt. It was my first proper design too lol The only problem is I have no grandkids to pass this onto!I am still living in hope  |
I'm so glad you finished it! It is super cute. I love your quilting. Well done! I just really love it.

Thankyou SheriR that is really kind of you-I have to be honest though- there are a few things I might have done differently lol if I was doing this again(always wise afterwards!) I would think twice about using the minky with all the free motion as I found it really hard, I dont know if that is my age or not but I found it hard to drag around :o, and I would have really liked to have 'puffed up' the elephants a little- possibly using a polyester filling may have helped, or some other method...what do you all think?
I love this board- it is so great for all the support and help. I dont think I would have been half as adventurous otherwise! |
Very cute..

Irishphoenix,
Omg! That is beautiful. My husband loves elephants. He thinks they are one of the most majestic creatures on earth. |
It is beautiful...the fabric/design and especially the quilting. I think you have quilted very sympathetically....there is a certain soft sculptural look about it...highlights the elephants perfectly. Hope you feel stronger soon....You are like many of us....living in hope of grandchildren:). I keep telling them, unless they hurry up, we will be too old to babysit.

Fussy?? Heavens knows there's a kid out there who'd love this quilt.
Congrats on a job well done. |
Question???? How many hours did it take to fussy cut the elephants? The fabric you chose are just perfect for your design.

That is just absolutely beautiful and I love your ELEPHANTS where did you get them from please, if you don't mind.

Oh thanks everyone, I just love this board, yes it has taken me longer to get over this winter flu and chest infection than i thought it would. I was so glad to get into my sewing room (well my son's old bedroom anyway lol) and finish this.
Chasing Hawk- I love elephants as well and have one or two of the little dears around the place- not real ones just carvings etc Hi Earthwalker- thankyou for that- interestingly I was a sculptor in another life so maybe thats why!!I dont know why are they so slow with grandkids!!!! I only have the one son so no pressure there then :D Grannie Annie- Hi and thanks for your kind comments...well I appliqued the elephants and used Bondaweb and then cut the Elephants out freehand once I had ironed on the Bondaweb. They are 12 inch blocks and the elephants were a bit tricky to cut around the tail because it is so thin but I had them all done in an evening TG!! |
Heather- they are called Karavan Marrakeck by Valori Wells -Freespirit fabrics. You can also get them in flannel. I got mine from the Fabric Shack but I am not sure I think they only have the pink flannel ones now. I think they are so cute and happy elephants. Fabric.com also has them but I cant get them shipped to Ireland from this firm as they dont send via USPS -its very expensive using their postal service. xx
