Baby /Childs quilt or wallhanging?
3 Attachment(s)
Hi-I have recently designed this baby quilt from scratch -first time!!..BUT, I also added embroidery from my new Janome to the panels, which i thought was OK. I had a few teething problems along the way , unpicked a quite a few seams, got a headache but redid it lol. Anyway I have not sandwiched it yet as I am undecided about backing, I have some lovely blue and white minky fabric which would look pretty on the back for a child, its so lovelya nd warm, but if I decide its going to be a wallhanging the Minky is a bit of a waste, as I could just back it with white or blue, as it wont bee seen.
I cant decide if this quilt would look too fussy for a childs quilt or not? What do you think? I have put in a few pics below. Would love to know..I know the elephants are a bit crazy- they are going to be appliqued on today..the fabric is Free Spirit Karavan but I fell in love with it :D |
That is so pretty!

I love everything about this quilt! The elephants are adorable, and the fabric is perfect! I would definitely consider this a child's quilt, and I think any child would love it. Of course it would make a wonderful wall hanging, but why put it on a wall, when a child can enjoy and treasure it for years to come? Great quilt, nice job!

FABULOUS quilt!
I vote for the child being able to use it. |
Wow, very striking! Lucky you on the embroidery option too! Looks like a lot of fun here!
very nicely done

That is so pretty! Great Job!!
very nice!!!!

Gorgeous quilt, love everything about, especially the elephants.
Beautiful quilt. I understand you questioning whether it should be for a baby or not. I am not sure. I think maybe an older child or teen would like it. It's really gorgeous but not baby-like to me.
Thankyou!Yes, i know what you mean-its really more of a childs than a babby. I didnt think of age when I made it, tbh I designed it around the elephants, so it sort of unfolded as I went along !
I think thats why I didnt know whether it was more of a wallhanging..definately an older child's maybe :) |
It will be fine to start out as a Baby quilt, since Babies grow so fast. Very pretty quilt.
What you have is an adorable non-traditional baby/child's quilt. I love it! I wouldn't hang it, I'd give it to a special child who will love it every day. You did a great job.
Very lovely quilt. You did a fantastic job. Thanks for posting.
It's beautiful! I think I would rather it be used by someone who would love it rather than hanging on a wall. A baby may not 'appreciate' it at first but would certainly love it as the child grew. Just a great job! You should be proud!

I love the originality of it ... and my vote goes definitely to minkeeeeeeeee!
(I want it on a quilt for me! :) Lots of parents are planning the baby/child decor away from traditional looks now, and this would be perfect for one to USE! That being said, you didn't tell us the size ... if it's small, then it can become a wall hanging after the child outgrows it. If it is larger, it could be used for years. Just be sure that it goes to someone special who will appreciate it as much as we do!!! :) |
I love it! I would like it as a baby quilt, I think the elephants are adorable.
Beautiful fabrics. Will keep everyone entertained following the shapes. Lovely designs - well done
headache or not you did a great job
oh, I love the elephants and they go really nicely together with the embroidery! And I vote for quilt rather than wallhanging and then the cuddly minky backing!
That is so cute! Ir would be great as either one. Love the elephants!!!!!
what a lovely little quilt.
Very pretty quilt or wallhanging.
OMGoodness.....what a wonderful quilt!!!! Love your fabric and the elephants are perfect....embroidery as well!! This piece will be a treasure :)
An unusual print but darling for a baby quilt.
Love what you have done with the fabric. Perfect in every way.
I vote for a childs quilt! The elephants are so adorable and the quilt is marvelous! It would be a wonderful keepsake!

Thanks everyone,..it is my first effort at designing something from scratch...the blocks are 12 inches and the size is 47 inches by 54 inches. You have been so kind and supportive with all your comments. I got such a thrill reading them and it has given me confidence for the next one now!!
I just loved the fabric with the elephants on..the Fabric Shack did have it in pink as well originally but had sold out when I went to order, they only have the pink in flannel now. I didnt know how that would look on top of cotton blocks, so I stuck with the cotton one. Pink is so pretty though  Sigh! |
What a fun quilt! Love the elephants! It would be a great baby quilt or a wall hanging!
That is beautiful!!!!!

At that size, it could even be a small adult lap quilt. |
Very cute, great job and thank you for sharing
Have a Blessed day Ellen |
Wow that is so very beautiful.
It's a very one-of-a-kind piece.
I'm thinking 'wall-hanging' - just because it is so unique. I like it a lot. |
that is gorgeous!!
I really like this top. If it was me, I'd keep it as a wall hanging.
love the fabric! You have done a beautiful job. I agree that it is probably most fitting for an older child or teen.
Thanks again everyone, I am so delighted it worked out so far. I am going to applique the elephants tomorrow and then sandwich this quilt. I will post up a better photo when I have finished it!I probably dont want to do too much FMQ-I guess I am a bit worried about overworking it now :)
