The Back is Prettier Than the Front!

1 Attachment(s)
Well, I started working on mounting this piece http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...e-t215558.html this afternoon and just had to take a pic of the back before it gets covered up. I think I may have to do one on a light colored background next so the finished piece looks more like this...what do you think?

very nice quilt

KarenR 03-09-2013 04:08 PM

Please explain how you did this beautiful work!

KarenR 03-09-2013 04:09 PM

Why would you cover that up?

Tartan 03-09-2013 04:11 PM

I think I would figure out a way to leave the back uncovered. Maybe just corner triangles and stretcher bars? It looks like a Zentagles portrait of Ben and is totally cool!

sallie789 03-09-2013 04:13 PM

That's fascinating. There's no way I'd cover it up.

I'm not sure how to answer your question; this piece is all FMQ'd. I worked from a photo of Ben, drew some guidelines on the fabric, and after a lot of drawing on paper to decide what to do where, I quilted the designs with poly thread.

Probably about 20 hours of actual quilting time and that much more of drawing and planning.

gramajo 03-09-2013 06:06 PM

Holy cow. That looks fantastic.

Oh my gosh, yes, the back is totally gorgeous. I would have a hard time not using it as the front. But I have seen the front and it is totally awesome.

Ben is a handsome fella! Your quilting is fantastic!

suziehammond 03-10-2013 07:24 AM

When I get a good one like this I mount it under two pieces of glass.(Or even two frames back to back) That way either side can be the 'front'. Also you can have screw eyes in the top of this sort of 'frame' which allows it to be hung from the ceiling as a little divider which allows both sides to be seen all the time. Why not enjoy all that gorgeous goodess? Love it.

Sierra 03-10-2013 07:30 AM

I m not a big fan of lots and lots of quilting on a quilt... gets in the way of colors for me. This quilt isn't about colors, it's all about designs. This has got to be the most beautiful piece of quilt work I've ever seen! Wonderful job in all respects!

I don't have a picture of the back on this thread! Did I miss something?

gabeway 03-10-2013 07:49 AM

Wow! Absolutely stunning!

This is the back. There's a link to the front in my first post.

What an ingenious idea Suzie! I have a specific request to mount this one as gallery wrap from Ben's owner, but I will sure keep that in mind for the next ones.
