Your quilting is just out of this world. How long have you been quilting? Any special tips for hand quilting you can pass on?

Sure wish you were close to me so you could give me lessons!

Amanda,
to be honest, I don't remember how long this quilt did take, I can only guess: 2-3 months of fulltime quilting.

annette1952 11-24-2010 10:44 PM

I've been quilting for more than 20 years now. And special tips? For me is the most important one to have fun, to enjoy and to be aware that you keep a wonderful, very longliving craft alive. I think every hand quilter has to find her/his own way to do it, find the tools that are helpful and the matching material. And of course you have to practice.

If you have any special questions, just ask! I would be pleased to help.

Fayelh 11-25-2010 12:14 AM

I would so much love to be perched in a rocking chair beside you watching your hands make those stitches. Makes me feel all warm inside to think about it. I love your work. It always memerizes me.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. May your day be blessed.

Borntohandquilt 11-25-2010 06:46 AM

Thank you, Dorothy! I would be happy if you could sit besides me. We don't celebrate Thanksgiving here in Germany like you do in US - but I hope that you all have a wonderful day with people you love.

mimee4 11-25-2010 07:07 AM

Exquisite quilting. You have done beautiful work.

Connie Merritt 11-25-2010 07:40 AM

What do you place your piece on to quilt it? Does it depend on the size of the piece as to what you use? I love to do hand work like quilting and have done some. Your work is more than outstanding; what a pleasure to look at and to realize the hours and talent it takes to do this. Thanks for showing.

MerryQuilter 11-25-2010 08:25 AM

gorgeous quilting

I do all my quilts in a 18" hoop on a stand, a Jasmine Easy Spinner. That works great for me. Only when I take my quiltwork with me to my friend etc. I sometimes use a lap hoop of 16".
I only quilt in one direction, therefore I have to turn my work.

dixiechunk 11-25-2010 09:02 AM

I'm speechless...and that doesn't happen very often.

Carol Wilson 11-25-2010 12:10 PM

Beautifull quilt, love the colours, you have real talent and patience to have hand quilted it too.

Who designed the quilt, was it from a pattern?

Regards

Aussie Carol

beaniekins 11-25-2010 12:15 PM

Wow. Just wow. That is absolutely incredible.

I found the design in a book about Amish Quilts, but I changed the colors. For the quilting pattern I used pre-cut stencils.

Carol Wilson 11-25-2010 01:35 PM

Thankyou I will do a web search.

Cyn 11-25-2010 01:37 PM
