I love the quilt...thanks for sharing the instructions!

pdunn56 11-21-2011 03:24 PM

I love it, I think I'm going to give it a try . Love your colors, since they are very important for the outcome, that part will take me some time to decide.
Thank you for sharing !

I would enter formulas and square/rectangle requirements into a spreadsheet, add more formulas and divide by 36. Gets closer numbers than EQ and it provides the cutting plan. I love spreadsheets and use them for many things.
Here is a small example:

fabric needed length how many widths

White 2.5 8 5 42/8 100/5 =?? 27 inches or 1/3 yd and so on for each color and shape, then make your spreadsheet add them up and convert to yardage.

I didn't do any real math here, but you just need to remember "cuts across" and ??widths are up and will give the ydg

Thank you moreland..you have inspired me! I want to make a quilt with that "look"...right now! This will not be added to my ever-growing bucket list...I want to do it now! So I got some fabric and hit a stumbling block!! I don't know which ones to use so I came here for more guidance from you and other incredibly talanted and creative quilters on the QB. I am posting the picture with options. Consider the fabric labeled left to right, 1 thru 5. #5 is my choice for the tiny little center square. The other 2 in the 2nd picture are options as well!

Please help...thank you all so much in advance!

abdconsultant 12-01-2011 02:53 PM

Wow that makes it look so simple, thanks!

MaryMo 12-01-2011 03:05 PM

Thanks for sharing. Since I first saw the picture, I've been trying to figure out how it was done. So simple!! Now if I can bookmark this, I'll have achieved something today. It is a beautiful quilt.

Missgigglewings, I like your first four fabrics ... just not sure what I would recommend for the center - maybe something a little darker than fabric #5, but that's me. I look forward to see your quilt.

I did a quick mock up, but don't look too close....Can you tell me if it will pop the way yours did? Or least do you think the black/blue floral print is too much?

moreland 12-03-2011 06:15 AM

I sent a PM to missgigglewings but for others reading this, I suggested that missgigglewings drop the medium blue fabric. Place the lighter floral next to the darker floral, and insert the light overall floral from the second group of fabrics in the block as the second row, thus getting a better light to dark value range. Right now the solid blue stands out too much, so instead of the eye going smoothly from center to outer edge, it stops at the medium blue before moving on to the rest of the block.

Very nice
Have a Blessed day

I decided to put them side by side just for comparison!

missgigglewings 12-03-2011 02:18 PM

It looks better when you enlarge your page...the one with the blue looks like 2 layers floating...hmmm.

Cottontop 12-03-2011 02:29 PM

So great of you to share this great design.

Lindsey 12-03-2011 03:06 PM

wolf3349 12-06-2012 03:00 PM

There is another pattern for this also--called---Flying Colors by Georgette Dell'Orco
It finishes at 64 x 64----cozy quilt desisng. I don,t know if this helps or not. I did up this quilt and am going to do another for myself as my GD wanted the first one for Christmas.
Good Luck

blahel 12-07-2012 11:30 PM

thanks for posting this as I was thinking of making this quilt in the new year so now I just have to find the perfect fabrics! Only one question would you paper piece this?

Quiltaddiction 12-08-2012 02:12 AM

I loved this pattern when I saw it ,bought it to attempt one day

wolph33 12-08-2012 04:45 AM

wow,I want to try this also.I still have tubs full of 2.5 inch strips ready to use.

sewmom 12-08-2012 05:24 AM

I love this pattern and as I said in the first posting, I made one in red/black/white for my DD for Christmas last year. I usually need patterns for my quilts as the math makes my head hurt! I will probably make another one eventually, but not right away. For those of you attempting this quilt, please make a mock up block first and put it on your design wall and look at it for a while. You don't want to make a bunch and then decide there is a color in there that doesn't work. It really is an easy pattern and i love the 3D effect. I called mine Stacked Crackers. Haha.

grammy of 6 12-08-2012 08:31 AM

I can see that the color choice is important the get the 3D effect. Are there any "rules" that would help us pick the right fabrics, such as color values?
Thanks

Roma Bauder 01-23-2013 02:33 PM

I am going to atempt this pattern, will post pic's when I have a few blocks done
