Batik Bag
 

Been working on a couple of bags. I was layed off last week from my job of 14 yrs. I buried myself in my sewing room all week. I wasn't happy with the clothsline method, so I found this method with batting on utube. I used 3 different Batiks all in melon shades. The green button brings out the green in the fabric. Also made a black and white bag, have to find another cool button before I post. Took me 2 days to make each one. No one would pay the price if they were for sale.

Really sorry about your lay off. I know how that can hurt. What a blessing to have a place you could go and be creative. Quilting and other accessories are healing for the soul. Your bags are great. Thank you for sharing.

I really like the bag, also. The clothesline bags have been on my "to do" list, but I think I like this better. Sorry about the job situation. Maybe since this door shut, an even better one better one will open.

Your bag is beautiful! I too prefer the batting method and am in the process of making one ,I'm amazed that you finished one in 2 days, they are time and thread consuming but oh so worth it.

I am just enthralled with this pattern. You made yours look so beautiful with those colors of batik. Please give the link to the tute. I bet this is even much lighter weight to carry than the corded method. My atriritic body made me think of that... LOL.

Yup...that's the correct utube tut. Sorry, I was at my knitting class tonite. She only shows the technique of sewing the strips. I made my strips 2 1/2" and the batting strips 2". I found it better when folded. I tried the clothesline and didn't like the end result. If you google batik bag pattern, you will come up with multiple sites. There is a pattern for the bag, but I couldn't wait. I found batiks work better. You have to pull the strip taught when attaching to the previous row. Regular cotton fabric is not as stiff as batiks and you really have to work at it. I will post the black and white bag tomorrow after I attach the handles and buttons. I am sorry about your job too. Despite what the media tells you, there are jobs out there. I know it will be a challenge to find the right one but if you had a 14 year SUCCESS at your last job, that does count for a lot. You would not have been there that long if you weren't good at it. Blessings!

It really sucks but I am optimistic that another door will open and I sure hope sooon! I'm too young to retire and not old enough to get the benefits I need to stay afloat. It's tough out there! Lisa, no problem, you weren't demanding. I just looked at all the eye candy on the internet and just went at it. There is a pattern for the clothesline bag, called Bali Bags. It is constructed the same way. I didn't have the pattern, so I had to figure it out on my own. Once you make the strips you begin to zig zag them together in an oval then you start to build the sides. Did I say that I ripped the first bag apart 4 times until I was satisfied. But I didn't care, I needed to bury myself for the week.

Sorry to hear you were laid off. But hopefully you will be able to get your UFO's completed. I love the bag pattern and you did an exellent job of putting it together with the neat fabrics and cool button. Thanks for sharing.

Job loss is a bummer, but your bag is not.....maybe make a pattern and after having it tested by another sewing person, you could sell it......I'd probably be interested in a very graphic, well written pattern and I'll bet other's would be too. Just a thought....:)
