Black and white and red all over? EASY quilt!

Fabrics - started with a Missouri Quilt Co Deal of the Day - a 30-piece layer cake of Vivaldi. Added the jelly roll of the same line and the backing fabric of one of them.

Pattern - searched for "layer cake and jelly roll" and found it. Basically you cut the layer cake in half and put strips on each side. You did trim it down - maybe 8.5"? - to make it square. Alternate block directions and you've got it.

Borders - none. This may be my first borderless quilt, but it works.

Binding - backing brought over

Quilted - FMQ on my domestic machine. It's definately a beginner job, but only you know and I know you won't tell!

testing pics to see if they attach small again - you can click on them to make them larger, but I haven't had them do this before.

What a lovely quilt. The fabric is gorgeous.

lollygagging 05-24-2012 08:37 PM

I love the fabrics you chose. I also like it without a border. It seems to speak clearly without one!! Thanks for sharing.

nunnyJo 05-25-2012 03:46 AM

this is a wonderful quilt, dynamic looking

red-warrior 05-25-2012 03:48 AM

Very nice!

debcavan 05-25-2012 03:56 AM

That is just a great color combination. That backing fabric is awesome. Most people don't know the difference between a beginners quilting and an experienced quilter's. They look at the overall beauty of the quilt. And this sure is beautiful

I love your quilt ~ it is beautiful!!

jennieb 05-25-2012 04:06 AM

I have never had to click on the small picture to make it bigger before either. That just started happening yesterday. What gives?

I don't know why the pics are small and clickable - perhaps to save space or whatever you call it? I'm not a fan - takes longer to browse through.

Excellent colors and delightful pattern = spectacular quilt.

qbquilts 05-25-2012 06:49 AM

very cute pattern - I never would have guessed that it started with a layer cake and a jelly roll. I'll have to keep that in mind for other projects!

It's a FABULOUS quilt! I love, love, love the fabric & would love to know where you found the pattern (yes, I'm so dumb I have to have a pattern to look at... LOL!). You did a great job on this little (how large is it?) beauty!

burchquilts 05-25-2012 04:51 PM

The perfect name? "Jan's Jelly Cake"!

Jan, don't you just love MSQC? I shop online from them often. Jenny has such great precuts & fantastic tutorials. Was this one from your all nighter? Boy, you were a busy girl! It came out beautifully! (I just got a package from MSQC myself, it's like Christmas in my mail box!)

phranny 05-26-2012 04:34 AM

Love it! Looks like a good pattern to keep on hand for a quick gift. Beautiful colours.
