Border or No Border ?

1 Attachment(s)
Should I add a border, or just bring the back fabric to the front when I bind it ?
I trimmed a bandana for the center & raw edge appliqued, then quilted it (the bandana).

you don't show what the back is-so hard to tell if that should be used as a binding or not-the quilt doesn't necessarily need an additional border at this point- unless you want to make it larger- for a binding either the blue or the red would work nicely- depending on what you plan for backing. personally i would not bring the backing to the front- i would use an actual binding-but that's just me.

cjsews 09-15-2012 02:31 PM

Very nice. A border would look good but if you use a little darker color for your binding, that would set it off nicely too.

nativetexan 09-15-2012 03:07 PM

I would love to see a border on it myself. not sure what your backing fabric is. nice quilt though!

QM 09-15-2012 03:12 PM

Good job so far. IMHO, a narow border of the red, followed by a wider one of the blue would be great.

Grandma Peg 09-15-2012 03:23 PM

A border would like nice and my preference would be the blue.

QuiltnNan 09-15-2012 05:28 PM

i vote for adding another border

debquilts2 09-15-2012 05:47 PM

skinny red then skinny white then big red would look great

BETTY62 09-15-2012 05:51 PM

I would add a red border.

sewsew busy 09-15-2012 07:20 PM

A border would set it off nicely.

red-warrior 09-16-2012 05:10 AM

Very nice.....I too would add a border.

pollyjvan9 09-16-2012 06:32 AM

Lovely quilt, I like QM's suggestion.

Tweety2911 09-16-2012 07:27 AM

Yes, a border will finish the quilt nicely!

DebbE 09-16-2012 07:58 AM

I'd go a bit different - I'd do 3 smaller borders (maybe 2 1/2" finished) of red, then white, then blue -- a patriotic border would be more in keeping with your center block. Love your quilt!

piepatch 09-16-2012 08:02 AM

Your quilt is very pretty! I say a definite yes for a border, maybe even two borders. One narrow and one a little wider.

ScrapQuilter 09-16-2012 08:03 AM

Yes a border it need something to frame it............ love the quilt - very nice.

BeverlyH 09-16-2012 08:22 AM

Voting for a red border. Very nice!

BellaBoo 09-16-2012 08:30 AM

White border and a binding of red.

Grandma Cindy 09-16-2012 09:18 AM

I agree and then blue binding as well.

A thin border of the solid red would be good to me! It's beautiful !!

LoisM 09-16-2012 09:40 AM

I love your design! I'd go for a blue border and red binding.

I think I would put a border. It looks great!

carolaug 09-16-2012 03:24 PM

I would do a 2 inch dark blue border and then a 4 inch border.of the red ..Love how it came out!

ube quilting 09-16-2012 03:25 PM

How about a red, white and then blue borders?
peace

lynnie 09-16-2012 03:27 PM

Id like a border to frame it

Wanabee Quiltin 09-16-2012 03:30 PM

I would put a red border on it, I think. Very pretty.

busy fingers 09-16-2012 04:08 PM

I would go for the border - a border just seems to frame a quilt and bring it altogether for me.

WMUTeach 09-17-2012 04:29 AM

Border. Medium/narrow of red and then either the blue or the white in a medium width. But then it is, your quilt and you and do as you wish. Enjoy and I do understand that a little input from others always makes you own ideas solidify.

twinkie 09-17-2012 04:47 AM

If it were mine and not knowing what the back fabric is like, I think an all white border about 3" (finished) wide, then a very small red one (about 1" finished) finishing with the blue. IMHO

Blinkokr 09-17-2012 05:00 AM

Just wonderful, great job and thank you for sharing, add border, old Navy gal here married to old Navy guy.
Have a Blessed day

Yes, Myself I would put a thin red border then a thicker blue. even a darker blue. It is fantastic by the way.

Tudey 09-17-2012 05:54 AM

I always think a border "ends" it...so I vote for a border!

Vat 09-17-2012 06:10 AM

I really think you need a border and then cut binding and add it to the edge. Will look more professional. Love it so far.

ShirlinAZ 09-17-2012 07:34 AM

I like borders to finish a quilt. Maybe a narrow border of dark brown picked up from the eagle, and a wider red border, then red binding to finish it. At least that would be my choice.

Patsy2757 09-17-2012 07:39 AM

I'm new but I'd add a border with a dark binding.

needles3thread 09-17-2012 09:32 AM

just a dark solid or almost solid binding would work for me. maybe a 2" dark border.

stichinluvr 09-17-2012 09:40 AM

I like it without a border but if you feel it needs one, I'd got with red.

Ditto..... I really like what you did:)

quilt3311 09-17-2012 02:05 PM

I vote for a border or maybe a small border then a larger one. Quilt is pretty as is too.
