So I finally broke down and ordered the pattern for the mini Bow Tuck, and I must say, with some modifications, I'm hooked.
First thing I will change is the iron on fleece lining. WAY too bulky to have on both the lining and on the outside fabric. Same with the handles. In both cases the top stitching is through 4 layers of fleece batting and 4 layers of fabric. The handles stand at attention, which I really don't mind, but is not, IMHO necessary. Also, in the mini pattern it calls for WOF for the lining pockets. This had me stumped for quite a while trying to figure out why my piece was so long compared to the lining. I guess it's a misprint. Finally, I should have paid more attention as to the placement of the front pocket, because I placed it too high. Don't really know how I make that mistake. Also, I think my choice of fabric could have been better, although I love it anyway. All said and done, I LOVE, LOVE LOVE this pattern and am headed to the store this afternoon to buy more fabric for the next (and improved) Mini Bow Tuck. Inside |

It is cute. I like your fabrics. Thanks for the hints.

Great bag! Love your fabrics! For the pocket, I sew the bottom of the pocket in with the bottom portion of the bag. Maybe this will work for you.

I love the material you choose.. I just bough the pattern from a member on the board. I cant wait to do it.
|
love the color, good job,
|
Very pretty! The large bow tucks calls for width of fabric, too-you end up cutting off a lot. We also wondered why the don't have you so the bottom of the pocket between the top and bottom sections in the early stages.

Very pretty. Thanks for the hints. I plan on starting one soon.
|
Very pretty, looks great to me.
|
very nice job...colors are great

I'm an extreme budget sewer, soooo I use regular cotton batting (left overs) and spray baste.
|
that came out very nice and I do like your fabrics.

I think you made a good choice for the fabrics. The next one will probably be a lot easier now that you know what to do.
|
I went to the fabric store today and bought enough for 2 more Bow Tucks. One for my cousin's wife for her birthday and on for my SIL just 'cause I love her.
Like I said, I'm hooked. |
Pretty bag..love those fabrics!
|
Nice job, I made one yesterday too and planing on making more.
|
Great job!
|
So would you use the iron on fleece on the outside fabric and not the lining? Or would you use something else on both. I just bought that pattern and I want to learn from your experience. Love your bag.
|
Love your bag! I like the idea of sewing the outer pocket in the seam. Never thought of that! As for the extra inside pocket because you cut it WOF, I trimmed the extra off and treated it as another pocket inside, and slightly higher than the other pockets. Works great for me! :-)

You did a great job. I love your fabric.
|
Beautiful!! I love that fabric :D:D:D

Great job!! I love it :)

Love the fabric......good choice.

Just love the color. You did a very nice job.

I believe you did the same thing I did when I made my first one. Your using more of the iron on fleece than you need. The handles only have one layer of fleece. One layer between the folded fabric. And I am thinking the lining does not have fleece added to it. I know the pattern is hard at first but if you read again carefully you will see that there is not all that much fleece in it. Your bag turned out very nice though.

I ended up using a heavy stabilizer on the handles instead. They are thinner, but i like it better. I also have my handles go "deeper" into the purse, rather than match up raw edges, keeps them from flopping around everywhere. if that makes any sense at all! |
I think on the next one I'll use the iron-on fleece on the outside fabric and bottom and use regular iron-on interfacing on the lining and handle and see how that works out.
I did quilt the one pictured but the thread blends in so well that it's hard to see. I WILL continue to quilt the outside main fabric because I like the look better and think that it makes the whole purse more stable and also hand made. Tonight another lady saw this one and immediately wanted one. She said that she'd pay me for it. So I nonchalantly asked her what she expected to pay and she said, "Oh, I don't know, its $15 enough?" (Hummmm... think I'll wait on making THAT one. $15 barely pays for the fabric and fleece.) |
Very pretty. I'm in the midst of making one now, along with four other projects.
|
love it just beautiful
