SHannon sent me this Fabulous quilt!
I looked at it for a few days wondering what to do with it...It is linnear in design but she had already used a circular designed fabric ..so it had nice motion...
I thought swirlies.....nautica....then thought no...doesn't seem right...put it away for awhile..then brought it back out again....those dark gray areas were just screaming for some good quilting because they are the place that kind of let our eyes rest but also bring out those fabulous batiks.

I have never qulted this design before....I practiced on paper...LOL..so the muscle memory will get there soon enough and I could have made it easier on myself by purposly making them big and small..(next time maybe)but it didn't call for that. I think that is the beauty of person quilting not computer quilting...I am not perfect..but I love the effect that it took on the quilt.
On the broken squares areas I did little flourishes and different types of flowers....to give it a bit of motion but not a lot.

Of course I quilted this all freehand..no pantographs or computer quilting and I quit on an INNOVA ( the best machine on earth..I am bias).

I love this little quilt! Thank you for looking!

Wow - wonderful job once again. Love the quilt - whoever pieced it did a wonderful job.
Charismah - you should do a tute or a you tube with some of your techniques - I would love to learn.

You are truly an artist with an eye for beauty. All of your work is exquisite!!

Neena 02-05-2011 10:23 AM

Beautiful! You are so gifted in your quilting...makes the pieced top come to life!

Charismah another well thought out and brilliantly executed LA job. You are so right about those oblong loop-de-loops in the dark border. Green Fairy uses that technique quite a bit and the results are just fantabulous! They lend themselves well to loads of different shape spaces as well. And your flowers in the squares are just to die for! I could not agree more on your comment regarding hand guided vs computer guided. While CG is beautiful I just don't have the same admiration for it as I do for all hand guided. Hand guided makes every quilt unique and no other quilt will be like it.

Quiltdraggon has great color in this quilt. And I love her chosen backing. This quilt is just as pretty on the back as on the front.

Another outstanding job by both quilter and piecer.

I love the quilting you did on this one.......I know what you mean by thinking the quilt needs something different and you have to look at it a while before something really settles on what fits. I also have an Innova and loooovvvveee it. Great job :D

Nancy A. 02-05-2011 10:31 AM

The batiks always seem to want something more .... at least for me:D

MaRanda 02-05-2011 10:35 AM

Absolutely stunning!!

oma66 02-05-2011 11:20 AM

Absolutely beautiful - piecing and quilting.

oma66 02-05-2011 11:23 AM

Charismah, do you always wait for the quilt to "speak" to you? Your work is amazing. I hand quilt myself and for the most part hand quilters do not have the dense quilting that you can get with a long arm. I am most impressed when a long arm quilter does not overpower the quilt with the quilting lines therefore losing the quilt pattern in the quilting lines. You do fabulous work - always looking forward to seeing more of what you do.

wolfkitty 02-05-2011 11:36 AM

You always do beautiful work! I love the 'stones', if you will, sort of a take off on 'pebbles', in the black.

asmmauer 02-05-2011 11:38 AM

Wow that is gorgeous!

skydiver70 02-05-2011 11:55 AM

Thank you! You know I try to wait for them to speak to me for the most part..sometimes they tell me right away..other times I have to think about it..I get stressed sometimes when I Know a deadline is approaching or I have had a quilt to long....Every quilt is different and I don't knwo if I have any "cookie' cutter designs for anything..so far? LOL

cozycrafter 02-05-2011 12:11 PM

I was talking about this with my husband....I Don't know..people keep asking about that and I will have to rally think about that because it comes so naturally to me..that I will have to look at my process..and break it up and start that way.

So when I get TIME..LOL. I will work on it...trying to get a website up and running..and keeping up on quilting. I may just start with a blog...

Well I never pass up a meal....LOL. I sleep every night believe it or not..anywhere from 6-8 hours usually.
Clean house..I have 6 kids who are responsible for a chore each day and their own bedrooms..so I just have to check and organize..other than laundry..which is right next to my sewing area ( conveniant) and my own room. I do meal planning each week so I knw each day what is for dinner and try to prepare in the mornings..so it is ready at dinner time. I try to do my homework ( as a I am a full-time student at WSU) during teh day whiel kids are at school. I quilyt in between things..you woudl be amazed at how much you can accomplish 15 minutes here and there. That pretty much sums up my days..LOL

franie 02-05-2011 07:39 PM
