What would you all do with this mixed up quilt top to make it look more coordinated? The corners do not show, but they are a pinwheel block.

I'm guessing Vincent isn't yet of voting age? He's a kid, right?

Because I think it's just perfect for a kid.
Obviously you spent a lot of time looking for fabric that would reflect his hobbies/likes. It's like a supersized I spy quilt. He's going to love showing it off to his friends.

I think it's a riot!! So much fun!!

I'd quilt that ASAP and get it on his bed permanently.

Remember, it's ALL about Vincent.

susie-susie-susie 03-16-2011 12:54 PM

I would bind it with either red of blue to pick up the colors from the center block. It looks like a nice quilt even if it does have a lot going on. I think the bright border will bring it all together. I think Vincent will have a good time finding all the different "favorite things".

Here is the scoop: Vincent just turned 4 and his favorite colors are red and blue he tells me. I asked what his favorite things were and got a whole long list (all of which are in the quilt). Then his dad stepped in and wanted parts of his hunting clothes included, etc. Then I was told add some bear and some deer.

The family is completely happy with this top and I am about to send it off to be machine quilted for them.

Personally, I think it may win the vote for the ugliest quilt I have ever made!

When it comes back and I can get a better full shot,it might look better. Most things do after they have been quilted and washed once.

jodimarie 03-16-2011 01:04 PM

OMG.....please LEAVE HIM/HER ALONE!!!!!!!!!! She/he, is just PERFECT for a child named Vincent. Yes, I do think quilts have either a male or female feeling

I'd bind it in red and be happy. Vincent will be happy, for sure!

I'd rather have a shot of Vincent's face when you give him the finished quilt.

Sorry to disagree with you, but I think it's fantastic. How can you not smile when you look at it?

And I'll bet he's still using it when he's in high school..... ;) ;)

I made a monster bed quilt for a 7 year-old. His mother said that he had a parade of kids the first week coming through the house to view his quilt.
Tell me that's not better than a blue ribbon. Really.

purrfectquilts 03-16-2011 01:14 PM

MTS: that is definitely better than a blue ribbon!

Vincent has been asking for this quilt for quite some time, so yes, a picture of his face would be just great. I hope I get to see that too.

Tartan 03-16-2011 01:17 PM

I think it is great! The light coloured fabric in the center is perhaps bothering you? It will look great once something is quilted in that area.

Yes, it did look a bit out of place. The backing is that same fabric. And, I do have lots of fabric left that I could make random blocks and scatter all around the back ... making the quilt reversible.

Raggiemom 03-16-2011 01:59 PM

I think Vincent is going to be a very happy little boy. Red binding would set off the quilt nicely and since it's one of his favorite colors, that's a bonus.

quiltmouse 03-16-2011 02:04 PM

It will be a treasure his whole life, I see him handing it on to his son.

my 50 yo bro still has his landscape of the 100 acre wood with pooh & piglet in the corner that g-ma painted, yes, hung in his home office. (An artisan style painter, not a primitive, folks paid $100s for hers, back in the 70's)

cheryl rearick 03-16-2011 02:14 PM

What a beautiful little quilt.... WOW sooooo much work in it. Did you cut out the little boy as well.? whew IF I quilted 100 years do not think I'm that gifted... :) very nice job.

Birdena 03-16-2011 02:16 PM

It's awesome...I wouldnt change a thing.

bjnicholson 03-16-2011 02:27 PM

I agree with everyone else. It's perfect of a 4 yr old boy. Red binding will make it even more perfect!

emerald46 03-16-2011 02:35 PM

What a wonderful quilt! That little guy is going to love it forever!

You could just make a few pinwheels for the back -- keep it simple. I vote with the majority to bind in red.

Shunem 03-16-2011 03:03 PM

Matching pillow sham!

wolph33 03-16-2011 03:04 PM

great quilt top-get r done

bigsister63 03-16-2011 03:05 PM

beauty is in the eye of the beholder! So I am sure through Vincent's eyes this is beautiful!!!!!!

It was fun to do the little boy. He is wearing Vincent's favorite colors, has the same hair color as the real boy and the same color eyes. He is kicking a ball, another of Vincent's favorite things to do and holding a cap with the letter "V" on it.

Wow. That is very special that your brother still has that.

purrfectquilts 03-16-2011 03:14 PM

Pillow shams would be a good idea and I like the thought of simple pinwheels for the back. A lot less work!

marymm 03-16-2011 03:15 PM

Proof that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think it just shows your generosity. You're pleasing him, not necessarily you...The payback will be love and hugs.

Kitsapquilter 03-16-2011 03:28 PM

I would not do a thing to it...leave it as is. It is too cute for a 4 yr. old. He will love it!! Good job.

LAB55 03-16-2011 03:41 PM

I think it is prefect !! He will love it forever & a day !

linz83 03-16-2011 03:53 PM

It is perfect for a 4yr old! It isnt ugly (your words) it is just busy and thats is the perfect thing for a little one!!

All his favorite things, wrapped into one!! love it

raedar63 03-16-2011 08:01 PM

I think it is great, I like all the diffrent fabrics, perfect for a child, and even me:)

teacherbailey 03-17-2011 02:23 AM

I LOVE it! As far as pulling it together, I think all the earthy colors do that nicely so you don't need to worry further....but I agree with the bright binding. And since you mentioned it, a reversible quilt would be that much more cool to a 4 year old! Imagine a nightime conversation..."Vincent, do you want to go to sleep with the bears and moose touching you or the other side?"....

jtquilts 03-17-2011 02:44 AM

I think it is just perfect! I put together an 'eclectic' quilt of leftover blocks and old blocks from a great-grandmother. Nothing matched but, when all together it worked! I, too, would love to see the look on Vincent's face when this is given to him!

I agree!!!!

Babs194068 03-17-2011 03:28 AM

I see nothing wrong with the way it is. Great job. I am sure Vincent will love it.

roadrunr 03-17-2011 04:22 AM

It's perfect and he'll love it!

jeanneb52 03-17-2011 04:38 AM

Yep, red binding and lots of laughs when he is grown up. What a wonderful quilt.

Mariposa 03-17-2011 04:45 AM

This is fantastic! You'll like it even more when it is quilted! Red binding would be a great finish~

abdconsultant 03-17-2011 04:48 AM

Bright Red or Blue.

Homespun 03-17-2011 04:59 AM

It will be treasured forever. I agree to bind it in red.

nannya54 03-17-2011 05:09 AM

Anything you do to it now will be just the right touch. What a wonderful quilt for a child. This shows how much time you spent just on him and how well you really know him! Someday he's really going to appreciate it. Meanwhile, he's going to snuggle under it and know how much you love him. Isn't that what counts?

sandpat 03-17-2011 05:41 AM

Oh...cool quilt! Especially for Vincent! He is gonna love that thing...I'd say- Great job!

katlady 03-17-2011 06:01 AM

I think it is fine the way it is.
