I have never and don't know how to to it. I have some left over that my mother did when she was living. I made some pillows out of the few blocks. I love it and how it looks. Thanks for sharing. Have a blessed day! :)

Years ago I made some things in chicken scratch. I had forgotten all about it. I bet I still have some books put away.

When I was about 7 or 8, my Mum made me a few summer dresses in gingham with embroidery on like this - they were so pretty - but I've never seen it since. My Mum was Irish.
Your quilt is lovely.

Wow, i've never done it but i really like it!

Katrine, I bet your dress was cross stitched. My mother made me a dress when I was little and I cross stiched a border around the bottom of the skirt. It was really striking.

oh wow, I have always wanted to do it. It looks easy, just having done it yet.

Sewlady, Chicken Scratch actually is a cross stitch pattern done on gingham. Patterns for chicken scratch can be found by searching chicken scratch and/or cross stitch. With chicken scratch, you just do an x and a + in the gingham block.

Your quilt is lovely and yes, I have made tablecloths with chicken stitch designs. My grandmother made me one when I was newly married in the 60's. She offered to show me how and I declined saying I would never have the patience. I used her tablecloth until it was well worn (I still have it) and I have made several since, the first one I did I copied her design. I often think she would have been proud of me having the patience to do them. I still have a Quilt book of patterns….The How to chicken Scratch by Rita Weiss.

The chicken scratch I used to do was very differnt from the cross stitch I did on the bottom of my dress. Anyway, it is all beautiful.
