I'm working on a tube quilt and would appreciate your opinion on which layout to use.
These are layouts created with EQ6 software. I scanned samples of the fabric, so these are the blocks I have to work with. The resolution isn't that great, but just trying decide which layout to use.
What do you think? I appreciate your help!

I really like #2.

bisseau 07-21-2011 07:00 AM

#2

QuiltE 07-21-2011 07:00 AM

It's really up to you, depending on the look you want to achieve!

Another possibility you might want to try .... flip your blocks around so that the stripes match (different fabrics though) and the white space matches. You'll start with a solid block in the centre and come out in blocks around (on point) similar to the #1 version, just that it'll be continual. I know ... probably not explained well!

katieranch 07-21-2011 07:00 AM

#2...#1 looks fractured to me.

loves_2_quilt 07-21-2011 07:03 AM

I agree with this one.

And when you get the blocks done, you will discover that there are even more ways to lay them out.

Check out some of the log cabin layouts - these blocks are adaptable to those variations.

Yes! Good thought there!

sewbizgirl 07-21-2011 07:11 AM

#1 strikes me as rather disjointed, whereas #2 is very cohesive and pleasing to look at. Love #2!

catsnchina 07-21-2011 07:12 AM

I definitely like option 2 the best.

Motorcyclemad 07-21-2011 07:12 AM

I like #1. Option 2 looks too standard to me. I am partial to variety! I have issues (I admit it)

I agree. You might find something you like even better.

quilter1430 07-21-2011 07:13 AM

Personally, I love quilts that radiate from the center. Thus, my vote goes to the first one.

Glassquilt 07-21-2011 07:14 AM

Between the two I like the second.

I agree with trying different lag cabin layouts.

Melrose R 07-21-2011 07:16 AM

I like #1.

aorlflood 07-21-2011 07:17 AM

I like #1.

I like #1.

seahorsesanna 07-21-2011 07:18 AM

I am sorry to say that the first one hurts my eyes! It almost makes them cross if I look at it too long. I really like the second one. of course that is just my opinion which most people dont listen to especially the hubby!!!

szyquilt 07-21-2011 07:20 AM

Thanks for the input/advice!
It's funny, I came across the idea for #1 in a book at my LQS and really liked it!
Layout #1 was my plan from the start; but since this is going to be a gift, maybe I should reconsider.

dungeonquilter 07-21-2011 07:31 AM

How about #3. Try a pinwheel design.

Ditto...

sew_it_up 07-21-2011 07:34 AM

I like #1. It has more visual interest.

cindy4857 07-21-2011 07:36 AM

my vote is for #2

valsma 07-21-2011 07:36 AM

I like them both, but I must say #1 does some weird stuff to my eyes. It is like looking at on of those optical illusions but doesn't really show anything.

pipp5 07-21-2011 07:37 AM

I like #2 also, but this sounds like a good idea as well.

cctx. 07-21-2011 07:46 AM

Both designs are beautiful, but I really like how #2 looks.

katesnanna 07-21-2011 07:47 AM

Definitely #2, #1 made me go cross eyed. Sorry

Thanks, I'm going to put this one in my EQ6 and see how it looks... I'll be back with the verdict!

frauhahn 07-21-2011 07:47 AM

I like them both!

Linda71 07-21-2011 07:53 AM

I really like #1. Lots of interesting things going on.

Jan T 07-21-2011 07:56 AM

I loved number one, and then I saw number two. You can't lose with this one. My favorite fall colors and everything.

DebraK 07-21-2011 07:57 AM

#1 could be very interesting depending on your color choices and placement.

#1 for me.

mzzzquilts 07-21-2011 08:27 AM

#2 is my pick.

It'll be interesting to see if what you come up with is anywhere near what I was thinking!

For sure go look at the log cabin layouts .... Here you go for some .....
http://www.google.ca/search?q=log+ca...w=1016&bih=547

The one I was trying to describe is the Barn Raising layout ... scroll down to find it.

And there's lots more possibilites that aren't shown in this link.

The reason so many like #1 is because the design is more noticeably on the diagonal. Diagonal settings appeal to the eye and create interest as the eye moves over the design -- this is a basic design tenet.

#1 was my choice right away.

Tcharlie 07-21-2011 08:32 AM

I like both.......but prefer #1

Good idea to map out and see results!

blueangel 07-21-2011 08:32 AM

I like option#2

Afton 07-21-2011 08:34 AM
