Oh my, how stunning. What a great addition to their museum. I had the honor of going there years ago. I cried in the parking lot, the spirits living there were so welcoming.
I can see why it would be hard to part with, but on the other hand think how proud you will be to be a part of such a memorial
Grat Job  |
it is a beauty! I love the fabrics you choose!
Nice, a really unique quilt.
What a beautiful quilt.
OMG is that is beautiful! Had the pleasure of visiting the monument in '06... very impressive, but your quilt and the tribute to the monument is over the top... I opened the link up and the chills I felt for the all emotion behind the quilt.. what can I say TERRIFIC Job !!
Very nice.
Wonderful quilt and will be a great addition to the museum.
what an awesome quilt
Beautiful Quilt. I too have been moved at the monument.
I must ask... It is my understanding that there are no authenticated photos of Crazy Horse and it is believed by his descendents there are no photos of him in existence only a drawing done by a Mormon missionary. Who is in the photo in the center of your quilt? |
It was a picture I found online that looked like a pencil drawing of Crazy Horse. I'll find out when I go up to the Crazy Horse monument for sure, lol. The picture said it was of Crazy Horse
What a tribute

An answer to the question about the picture of Crazy Horse :
As sited from the official webiste: How can a portrait be carved of a person who refused to be photographed? Chief Henry Standing Bear and other Native American elders who invited Korczak to carve Crazy Horse Memorial insisted that the Memorial be located in the Black Hills because they are sacred to the Lakota. They also insisted that the Memorial be named after Crazy Horse because he is a great American Indian hero. Korczak did not intend to depict what Crazy Horse actually looked like. He always answered such questions this way: "Crazy Horse is being carved not so much as a lineal likeness but more as a memorial to the spirit of Crazy Horse -- to his people." -- Korczak |
nice quilt

I love the muted colors! Very neat design! Good luck with letting it go! :)
How lovely! :D
I'm originally from South Dakota...and my dad continues to do the Crazy Horse volkslauf. The area is so beautiful, and your quilt will be a lovely addition to the memorial! |
What a stunning quilt! I hope one day to be able to visit the area.
What a wonderful gift in honor of Crazy Horse. You did a beautiful job.
This is my very first comment on the Quilting Board... your quilt is wonderful for a wonderful, special place.
The Crazy Horse Memorial is one of my favorite places on the planet -- I have been there 3x and have donated $$ to them each year (not a lot, but what I can afford), for approximately the last 2 decades. The museum and Native American artwork there is inspiring, as well as the ongoing sculpture on the mountain. Great job on the quilt -- it will be a welcome addition to their displays... |
This is one of the prettiest quilt I have ever seen. My daughter has Native American decor and she would love it. It certainly is original. Thanks for sharing with us.
love those pics on it, looks wonderful
i love it , it is beautiful , my favorite, buffaloes.
Your quilt is really great. I showed my husband and he loved it.
Thank you for all your complements. I haven't been on for a few days because my computer went down and just got it back. I got an email today from Darrell that drew the corner pictures and he is concerned that they will sell it so I have to talk to them first before giving it to them. He doesn't want anyone like Kevin Costner buying it, lol. So I'll see what they say.

I'm not a fan of Kevin Costner. Not.At.All. |
Beautiful quilt and I agree about stipulating that it cannot be sold to collectors for 999 years or whatever # you choose.
I'm going to put it plain. If they no longer want to display it, it comes back to me. lol
Darrell Spotted Horse that did the skull and buffalo is a full blooded Hunkpapa, and a descendent of Chief Gall, who rode with Crazy Horse during the battle of little Big Horn. I just found that out. Gives a person chills doesn't it. The spirit was the Native Americans seem to be guiding me. At least that is the feeling I get.
WOW!!! I love this quilt!!!
How awesome that you made this for the wonderful monument :D:D:D I have been there a couple of times and it never fails to move me.... |
Thanks. :)

Your design and construction is outstanding! Perhaps you should develop
a pattern others could buy? |
