D-I-L's graduation quilt.3 years late? My excuses are...
2 Attachment(s)
She gave me the t- shirts in (hiding head in shame) 2010. I finished the top within 2 months.
So here are my excuses: I hung it, together with a completed pieced backing and completed binding strip, waiting until I bought a long arm. Then I started designing baby quilt pattern, so I felt like I should do my "work" sewing first. I'm still waiting for that long arm... We moved across country. I had therapy-surgery-more therapy for a work injury on my wrist. No sewing for now. Then we moved into our RV temporarily waiting for a transfer. But I brought the quilt top with me in the rig, along with good intentions. It's a queen size. Waaaay too big for my little domestic. Uh oh-now the baby is coming. I can't do a baby quilt before I finish Mommy's quilt. (Can I?) Guilt finally overcame procrastination. I need to have her send me some close ups of the quilting. Not bad for my little machine in my RV! Then it had to fly with me and wouldn't fit in my suitcase, so I made a pillowcase for it. That was my first and what a fun project! The flange fabric was from the quilt, the tiger stripe is from the backing. |
Nice job! Loved to hear all of your excuses. Some of them sound familiar!

OOOHHHHHH - I LOVE IT - my daughter graduated from Mizzou and my grandson went there for 2 years! I hope they are saving their t-shirts for a quilt someday!
I love the design, so different from most T-shirt quilts I've seen. Great job, no matter how long it took!
Looks great! and now which of your cute baby patterns will this new baby get?
Congratulations! You finished it!!! Don't you feel like a huge weight has been lifted off your shoulders? Good for you!
nicely done...
Elaine, I'm working on an elephant. My kids say the room is gray and pink with a splash of tangerine. Very elephant-ish!
I can't even imagine quilting a t-shirt quilt in an RV on a DSM. Congrats on getting it done and not finding more excuses (although your description of how you managed to put it off is hilarious). The quilt looks super.
nice job!!!!
this is definitely the best t-shirt quilt I have seen!!!
Great looking quilt.
The BQ patterns from Maple Island quilts are perfect for tshirts! That's what this is.
And look-I followed the pattern E X A C T L Y! Might be a first for me! |
I don't know..... that baby can grow up awfully fast!!! Glad you got it done.
Great t-shirt quilt! One of the best I've ever seen. She certainly will feel it was worth the wait. Aren't you feeling great that you finished it for her?
Neat quilt! Kudos to you for wrestling it through your machine in a RV.
awesome work
late is fine... it's beautiful!
i've only made two SMALL quilts... but in my knitting life i know about projects taking a long time. i have a cousin who had a baby and the baby blanket arrived when the baby was 2 ;) |
No mater how long it took and why at least you completed it and I bet she was thrilled with the result. Great job on it!!
As a Tiger myself, I love it and just agree with others who have said, best T-shirt quilt pattern ever. Go Mizzou! Maybe next year we can make the Final Four.
That is a beautiful Tshirt quilt !!! One of the best i've seen. Oh....and a beautiful home as well !
Very nice quilt with nice excuses too. lol.. Worth the wait.
As they say "better late than never"! And this looks like it was well worth the wait!
Life gets in the way of good intentions. But it turned out great. I love the layout.
Awesome job!
Very nicely done. And, hey, it got done! I think most of us can relate!
Beautiful. My daughter went to MU for two wonderful years before transferring to CMU in Fayette so she could stay in Colombia, MO.
Great job! Sounds like good excuses to me!
No matter how long it took you, it is just beautiful. You did an exceptional job, so give yourself a pat on the back!
Nice job and thanks for the excuses, I might use some of them. LOL. Congratulations on finishing the quilt.
Great t-shirt quilt!! love the layout!! The first two grad t-quilts I made were delivered on time. The next was 9 months late. And the last one was 6 months late. Those who received the late quilts had seen some of it in progress, so they knew that some day it would arrive. The graduate for this year has not yet brought me the shirts! OH, BTW, those are really not excuses....they're REASONS!
Gorgeous! Better late than never!
Glad you finished. It looks great!
Love the t-shirt quilt! One of the nicest ones I have seen!

Very nice! Love the Mizzou T-shirts, as I am a Mizzou grad myself! It's a lovely keepsake!
Yeah good for you, now on to the baby quilt,
It was worth the wait! That's the most classy T shirt quilt I've yet seen. Never seen one with that type of setting: It's pure genius.
