5 Attachment(s)
This is for our 3 (soon to be 4) year old niece in Indiana.

Approx: 55" x 65"
Pieced in quadrants, It was fun to design and not too terribly difficult to manage on my machine until the last seam - the middle one!
(...and I highly recommend using needles meant for denim/heavy fabric!)

It's heavy and she might need a tow truck to drag it around, but it should keep her warm. :)

Now... one more of these (with "boy" colors) to make for our nephew..

P.S. These quilts eat thread like there's no tomorrow.
Stock up. ;)

Wow!!! I'm not near to being that ambitious but wanted to tell you what an incredible job you did! Can't wait to see the boy one.

Wow - what a great quilt! Is this made with the directions for the circle quilt on here?

Thanks!

I didn't see the one on the boards...
Quite some time ago I saw this website:
http://www.equilters.com/library/jea...gallbaros.html

I used an acrylic circle template & rotary cutter for the denim circles
and cut the inner square template (for marking) from a plastic ice cream tub.

I love it!!!

BETTY62 10-15-2011 08:37 PM

It will last a long time! I made denim quilts for graduating nephews. Nephew who graduated in 1992 is wanting a replacement--he took it everywhere with him.

montanajan 10-15-2011 08:54 PM

peaceandjoy 10-16-2011 03:28 AM

Super cute denim quilt; she'll love it!

Patched 10-16-2011 03:29 AM

Really like it. You must have a very heavy duty machine to go over those multiple seams 5 or 6 times with the quilting stitches. What kind is it?

harvsstuff 10-16-2011 03:33 AM

Wow that is very nice, it will definately keep her warm.

blueangel 10-16-2011 03:33 AM

incoming2me 10-16-2011 08:05 AM

Thank you everyone! :)
Cutting the circles of denim really is the most tedious part, but it goes together quickly.

I forgot to add that the pastel fabric is actually very soft, but thick and durable cotton (stain-resistant) upholstery fabric.
It was a freebie given to me that I had NO idea how to use.
Well.... I figured it out!

Actually..
Halfway into this project, I got a Viking.
As I'd already started the project and didn't want to risk different stitching, I finished it on my nothingfancy18stitchtrusty Kenmore that I've had since new in 1991.
Using the correct needle for the denim (heavy duty fabric) helps tremendously!

Oh.. and Elmer's glue is your friend.

quilter68 10-16-2011 08:16 AM

Terrific quilt. nice colors for a girl.

Susanna10 10-16-2011 08:57 AM

I really like your stitching. Very pretty. I did not know how heavy denim quilts were until I made 1.

lynnsim 10-16-2011 09:02 AM

Wow! fantistic job!

Twisted Quilter 10-16-2011 09:05 AM

Peggy Jeanne 10-17-2011 05:38 PM

She will adore it. Can't wait to see it.

marytoddliz 10-22-2011 10:38 PM

Your quilt is really very nice, I love how you designed it!

Did you use any batting or just the fabric and the denim? I have made quite a few and am always amazed at the weight.

The last one I made was for my son and I just sewed the blocks together and lined it with a beautiful flannel desert fabric. It was the first one I made with out any batting and he says it is really warm. It was for a double bed and it was really heavy. (they have to take it to laundrymat to wash as it is too heavy for their machine!

I get jeans at second hand stores and use the pieces I can't use for the quilt for purses or aprons. I love working with jeans!
