Fabulous quilt to honor a very special person and to gift to someone else who is special.
Awesome! Definitely a great denim quilt. Quilt some simple straight lines...would Not want to hand quilt this baby!
Great job on this quilt! I'm thinking as heavy as a denim quilt usually is I would tie it rather than quilt it, especially since there will be on batting inside.
Love your denim string quilt.
gorgeous quilt--I'm sure it will be cherished.

This is a quilt made for our oldest grandson out of Papa's old denim jeans. He has seen it and is crazy about it.
Now to decide how to quilt it. It is pretty heavy. I will be using a midweight flannel backing and no batting. I will hopefully have it done by Christmas. Thank you for looking. |

I made this on the fly. We had seen a similar picture on pinterest. Myself strips were cut at 1, 1 1/4, 1 1/2, 1 3/4 inches. Not all strips were straight, some were odd shape. The corner triangle that makes the center is whatever size fits to finish the square.
I used a cheap sketch pad from the 99 cent store as a paper foundation. WHAT A NIGHTMARE. I had a hard time getting all the paper off. The papers were 9 in square. I placed the white strip (purchased denim yardage) down the center of the square and added stripes along each side with 1/4 in seam allowance. 4 squares make the block. To help make it lay flatter, I used 1/2 in seam allowances and pressed open when sewing squares together. The 4 units make a 16 in square. 4 squares across and 5 squares down. The first border was cut at 2 1/4 in and sewn with 1/2 seam and pressed towards the border. the braid border was made with pieces ( lots of pieces) cut at 1 1/2 by 4 1/2 in. It was then trimmed to 5 inches and attached with 1/2 in seams. My finished size is 76 X 92. Thanks to everyone for the nice comments. It was quite a task but fun to make. Will I ever nake another? Today my answer is no, lol |

My thoughts exactly! Great design, color, and the border is superb. My burning question is, how many rotary cutter blades did you go through to cut those strings???

That is beautiful quilt in its own right, but even more beautiful when you consider the sentimental value of the recycled denim.
Nice denim quilt.
Its beautiful! Dag that's a lot of jeans, and I'm sure very heavy. Such a wonderful gift.
I agree, this is the best denim quilt I have ever seen. What a treasure!
I see why your grandson is crazy about your quilt. It is fabulous! I like the way you did the border. I have a denim quilt and it keeps me toasty warm. Thanks for sharing your picture.

What a great up-cycling quilt project. I can see why your grandson loves it. Wonderful job.

What a beautiful denim quilt. It is the best one I have ever seen. I can tell it was a lot of work.
BTW, I recently did a denim quilt. May I suggest that you get a large supply denim or leather machine needles? The weight of the quilt when sewing sometimes will pull your needle and bam you have a broken needle. Good luck with the quilting. Oh, and be sure to get a supply of Bengay or other muscle soreness reducer because your upper shoulders and arms are going to get very sore. My husband would use the massager on my neck, shoulders and arms after a session at the sewing machine and boy did I need it! |
That is truly outstanding. My bottom jaw just dropped when the pic came up. NEVER, EVER thought of doing a jeans quilt in that manner. You are a genius!! And an artiste!
Beautiful job piecing, I love the border that you choose to make. There are a lot of seams to deal with in quilting so I would choose to use a walking foot or dual feed foot to do straight lines for the quilting. Just a thought, have fun quilting. Remember the more quilting the softer the quilt.
