I went to JoAnn's today and fell in love with this blue/yellow/green corn flower print. I'm not sure if I picked well with the other prints. I bought 2 yards of the white print, one yard of the yellow and what was left on the bolt of the blue,1.694yards.
Opinions appreciated.

Just couldn't wait to get something so I could try my hand at this quilting thing. lol
I figured I'd start out with a simple block, any suggestions?

tooMuchFabric 08-22-2010 09:30 PM

Ooops I'm sorry. Going to get picture now. Dohhhhhhh

tooMuchFabric 08-22-2010 09:45 PM

Oh yes indeed, you did well. Can't wait to see how you put it together.

trif 08-22-2010 09:48 PM

You did great picking out your fabric, very pretty. If you have never quilted before a simple pattern is called: warm wishe, I'm sure you can google it or even check the tutorials on the board for options, have fun with whatever you decide an share a photo when you finish. I would love to see your creation.

UglyCook 08-22-2010 09:49 PM

Gorgeous combination!

kwiltkrazy 08-22-2010 10:00 PM

Your combinations are great. What kind of easy pattern are you looking for? Are you up to half-square triangles? A basic star would be nice, try patterns at http://quiltville.com or http://quilterscache.com. If you want to do the same theme block over and over again,do quiltville, if you would like to do a sampler, go to quilterscache, and there are plenty of easy patterns, including paper piecing, applique, and plain old block construction, and the directions are really easy, and there is also a lot of patterns that are easy on the tutorial section of the board. Good luck.

You did great choosing the fabrics but be careful - quilting is very addictive.

Rebecca VLQ 08-23-2010 03:29 AM

Those fabrics are so pretty! If it were *me* I would lean more on the floral, the blue and the gold, and use the green as accents. Can't wait to see how this turns out!

happynana 08-23-2010 03:49 AM

love your selection of fabrics.

ilovejunkandstuff 08-23-2010 03:51 AM

If you are 1/10 as good at piecing and quilting as you are at picking out fabric you will awe us with your finished quilt. Wow great picks.

candi 08-23-2010 05:20 AM

You did great! Love the combination. My first block was an Ohio Star http://www.quilterscache.com/O/OhioStarBlock.html

You can browse this website http://www.quilterscache.com/QuiltBlocksGalore.html for a ton of free quilt blocks patterns and make a sampler.

GrammaNan 08-23-2010 05:32 AM

You have a great eye for color. I also suggest the Warm Wishes pattern. Type in to the search field on the site, there is a lot of information there.

sueisallaboutquilts 08-23-2010 05:40 AM

Split rail would be pretty also. http://www.quilterscache.com/R/RailFenceBlock.html

or this zig-zag
http://beesquarefabrics.blogspot.com...t-without.html

It will be beautiful no matter what block you pick!

belmer 08-23-2010 11:32 AM

You did very well at picking out your first fabrics.... I think you will do very well at quilting too. Please be sure and show us pics of your quilt. I also think that Quilters cache is your best bet for choosing your first block.
Good luck to you and may you have lots of fun with this!

Whewwwwwwwwwwww Thank you all for the nice compliments and suggestions. I'm leaning toward the Ohio Star or Warm Wishes at the moment. Not sure yet, my first attempt needs to be fairly easy. lol I'm biting my nails wondering if I can really do this.

bjnicholson 08-23-2010 06:33 PM

You did great. (My favorite colors.)

If you choose the Ohio Star, I would recommend that you try a practice one before you cut up your new fabric. Just my opinion. I teach this block in beginning quilting, but not as a first block.

CindyinNY 08-23-2010 09:00 PM

Thank you,Sadiemae. I'll take your advice. I do really like WarmWishes too.

Sadiemae 08-23-2010 09:05 PM

I'll have to look up the Warm Wishes, I have never made that one.

Annaquilts 08-23-2010 09:09 PM

I realy like the colors you picked. Ready set and go!

Sadiemae 08-23-2010 09:12 PM

I did a search. There are tons of Warm Wishes quilts. I really liked the ones with contrast. There were some really pretty ones. Your fabrics have good contrast and all go really well with the flowers. It would be beautful with the flowers in the center. Good luck on whichever you choose.

trif 08-23-2010 09:12 PM

I say go with the warm wishes pattern, it's a lot of fun and it will look fantastic with your colors. Enjoy quilting no matter what you choose but post a pic for us. We love to see eachothers work.

calicocat 08-25-2010 03:32 AM

looks perfect to me.

csmomma2 08-25-2010 04:07 AM

I love the fabric. My suggestion for a block is rail fence. I am a beginning quilter myself. My other suggestion is to look through books and magazines for some suggestions. Lots of them put difficulty levels on their pattersn. Be sure to let us know what block you decide and show us your progress. Good luck and welcome to the wonderful world of quilting.

shopaholic97 08-25-2010 07:37 AM

You did a great job of picking colours & values

joann hussey 08-25-2010 08:35 AM

warm wishes would look nice and easy to make

jpmaroni 08-25-2010 08:41 AM
