Disappearing Hourglass
1 Attachment(s)
Oh, how I love two color quilts! I had heard a lot about the Disappearing hourglass pattern from MSQ I had to try it. I cut my beginning squares at 9.5 inches and went from there. I looked for several weeks for the perfect pink fabric and never did find it until I was looking at wide backing fabrics online. Found this gorgeous pink backing so I ordered enough to make the quilt top and the backing. Love this pattern. Now I am wanting to make a blue and white one. The border idea I stole from my friend, Doris. She had seen my pink and white quilt while it was in the cutting stage and liked it enough to make a red and white one. Doris got hers done before I got mine done and brought it to me for quilting; that's when I saw her border and asked if I might use her idea on mine. The quilt shows the pink binding sewn to the front and not yet turned to the back and stitched down. I stitch the binding to the front while it is still loaded on my quilting frame. In the picture it looks like the quilt has two pink borders, but it only has one pink border, then the binding.

Absolutely beautiful!!!!

I love your quilt. It's so pretty
|
Good use of two colors. You have enough contrast to make this pop.

Great DHG! Some people complain about the bias but I found the bias edges allowed me to get perfect matching on my blocks. I also love this pattern!
|
Great colors!
|
Another beautiful quilt. How do you sew the binding on your quilting machine? I can see how you do the top and bottom but how do you do the sides?

Beautiful job. BrendaK

I tried that pattern out in a couple of sizes to get a feel for it. I love it too. The two I made are still on my design wall. When I finish the quilts I've started I am going to make one. I love yours. You did a great job!

You gotta send this to Jenny Doan - its' absolutely breath taking, and you would make her proud...great job!!
|
Regarding the binding: did you sew a 2 1/2", a 1 1/2" and another 2 1/2" together, then add them as one border to the quilt top?
I'm still in awe of your quilt!....... And sewing the binding while it's on the frame....now that's a new one!! It's got me thinking...... |
Beautiful and great color!

Bobbie, I love that pattern. The original block is actually called Broken Dishes. The block has an hour glass in the center, but the addition of the side triangles changes it a little. I've made a few blocks like this, and demo-ed how to make it at our group, but have not made a whole quilt of it yet. I will, someday. |
Lovely! Be sure to share the blue one!
