A Diversion

I still have 25 block or so to go on this king size quilt, http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...s-t262833.html ...and I need diversion. I was reading the tuts on the board and found a couple to inspire me. I made the first one which consisted of a hex over a focus fabric. It sort of reminded me of English paper piecing without the paper lol. I think it's one From Fred?
Then I saw another block and just had to do something like it. This is a 22 inch block. I don't know what to call it but I think I might make 3 more... |
very nice!!!
Wow. Both are nice, but that star is just stunning!
nice!! You picked a couple of good ones!
Isn't it fun to get diverted every once in a while. You picked some beauties for your diversion.
The star is from the Dusty Miller block in Block Base or you can find it on the web. I pulled the block into EQ, and enlarged the block to 22 inches. Then I edited out all the parts except the one wedge with the tri's, made the circle in the middle into a diamond and made that wedge in a pp. I made four without corners and four with corners. Depending on the fabric used, you can get all kinds of effects.

your blocks are so pretty. they would make nice table toppers.
Both are beautiful!
Both are neat but the star is STUNNING!! I enjoy playing with Hexes but haven't tried this technique yet.
That star block is gorgeous. Love the colors. Makes a bold statement.
Your star is spectacular! I also was diverted today, but only by a curtain for our basement walk-out--not nearly as much fun as you had.
Pretty and love the colors!!
Very clever designs. Like them!
Beautiful work. BrendaK

http://fieldguidetoquilts.com/4Curve...1diagrams.html scroll down and copy the block. Put a dot in the middle and draw a line to the patch with the geese on both side to form the diamond..cut that patch out and add 1/4 inch seam, this is the corner patch, make four and four without the corner, just fold the corner down and add the 1/4 inch seam. This block, however has more flying geese. YOu can eliminate some or wait for me to post a pattern. |
Very pretty, I like the last two.

Here is a the image of the dusty miller that I changed. See how I drew the lines? This is a 12 inch block. Right click on the block and print. Only a part of the block will print but that is the part you want anyway. Now I will see if I can upload the pattern with seams.

Here is the wedge. This is the corner patch, make four. Fold the corner down and add a 1/4 ins seam for the middle patches. I would just cut out some plain patches and sew the block to make sure that it comes out ok. Sew one middle wedge and two corners together, do the other side, then add a middle patch to opposite ends of the set of three, then sew those together. Notice, that you are sewing them together at an angle not in the middle. If you want to wait for the tut, I will try to do one. this is for a 12 inch block.
Right click on the patch and save it. Then click on it to open in windows explorer and then print from there. You can enlarge it and test it first with plain fabric. Just sew up the plain block without the flying geese. Don't forget to add a 1/4 seam to the middle patch once you fold the corner over. |
Beautiful job.
Lovely work.
You are so creative! Love how you are playing!!
They are both very nice but I particularly like the star one. It really catches my eye.
So beautiful.

That second one looks more than a diversion to me. Stunning.
Very pretty

Ok this block is on hold now. I have to get back to my other quilts blocks and finish. In the meantime I will think on what else to add to this block to make it into a table top or small quilt. I will post when I resume...Thank you for all your comments.

What - you couldn't do anything easy to be diverted? I understand doing something different but when I am burnt out I am barely able to darn socks!! You are admirable indeed. Thank you, I am properly chastened by the example of your work.
