Do I Need A Border

1 Attachment(s)
This is my second quilt. I would like to finish it for my sister to take to the hospital for her surgery on the 18th. I can't be there with her so I thought I could be in the form of this quilt.

Do you think it needs a solid border? The fabric on the right is going to be the backing.

It can go without, but I think a final border in the dark the same width as the zig zag would be a nice touch. It's your creation .. you can do what suits you.
It 's a lovely quilt your sister is going to love it no matter what you decide.

Quilt Novice 07-01-2012 01:59 PM

It's a lovely quilt!

sewsewquilter 07-01-2012 02:07 PM

I agree with Lori, it can be either way. I you want it to be larger add a border. I looks lovely now.

joyce888 07-01-2012 02:37 PM

Very pretty, either way you go.

bearisgray 07-01-2012 02:44 PM

It will be a lovely quilt -

I would suggest that you NOT send it to the hospital or nursing home, though - maybe have it ready so she knows it will be waiting for her when she gets home? When people are in hospitals, they get moved around - and sometimes belongings get lost or misplaced.

Marilynsue 07-01-2012 02:53 PM

I like it without. A dark binding would be enough to set it off just right.

grandmaemma 07-01-2012 02:56 PM

I agree with marilynsue...I like it as is....and now just the binding. Beautiful quilt.

Painiacs 07-01-2012 03:00 PM

I like it either way, just depends on how big u want it. I gree dont send to hospital! Would be cool to send it so it arrives after surgery so it keeps her company while recovering at home! What a wonderful suprise!!

KathyKat 07-01-2012 03:06 PM

That is so pretty! I would just bind it in one of the dark fabrics unless you want it bigger. If she asks whoever takes her to the hospital to hang onto it when she goes into surgery, it should be ok. Also make a label for the back with her name and yours as the quilter and the month/yr created. I wish her a quick recovery!

QUILTNMO 07-01-2012 03:10 PM

its very pretty i would probably just bind it in the dark blue

Neesie 07-01-2012 03:47 PM

It's beautiful! I agree with many of the others - a border would look lovely but not needed. You could compromise and use a wider binding.

Jingle 07-01-2012 05:51 PM

Absolutely beautiful, I love the pattern. Your call whether to have a border or not.

Tweety2911 07-01-2012 06:03 PM

Beautiful and I agree with the dark binding to finish it. If you needed to make it bigger the dark blue would be perfect. Which ever you decide it will be loved because you made it special. Good Luck to your sister on her surgery!

Diane007 07-01-2012 07:06 PM

IMHO

Stop unless you need the quilt to be bigger

nls 07-01-2012 07:13 PM

Like it without a border!

DogHouseMom 07-01-2012 07:17 PM

Another vote for leaving as is, unless it needs to be bigger. Very pretty as is.

Grandma Peg 07-01-2012 07:39 PM

It is a very pretty quilt the border depends on how big you want it.

showmehow 07-01-2012 07:40 PM

In my humble opinion I think a border is needed to complete such a beautiful quilt.

javin22 07-01-2012 08:31 PM

I would put a border on in the dark blue.

Taughtby Grandma 07-02-2012 01:15 AM

I think it's great the way it is if it's big enough for what you want. She should love it.

rootyr 07-02-2012 01:41 AM

It could go without one. Very pretty!

Blinkokr 07-02-2012 03:33 AM

Just wonderful, great job and thank you for sharing, it can go either way.
Have a Blessed day
Ellen

Up to size you want. If you like the size, I'd say the dark blue/light blue blocks are your border. Nice work !

spoufcas 07-02-2012 03:58 AM

I hope your sister has a very quick recovery, and this quilt will be such a comfort to her. I like your quilt as is, but put a boarder on it if you want it to be bigger.

SandScraps 07-02-2012 06:37 AM

I would prefer a border - it does frame your hard work and makes it pop.

mighty 07-02-2012 09:09 AM

Beautiful, either way!!!!

Delta 07-02-2012 10:01 AM

i don't think so. use the dark blue as your binding. that is beautiful.

quiltinggirl 07-02-2012 10:03 AM

I think this will be beautiful with/without the border. I love the blue fabrics you have selected for this pattern. Very nice job!!

Peggy Jeanne 07-02-2012 02:47 PM

I think it needs a border to frame it! Very nice job!

barny 07-02-2012 02:51 PM

I think just the dark binding would be just perfect.

Crafty1 07-02-2012 02:57 PM

I agree, it could either way. But if it were me, I'd bind it in the darker color.

carolaug 07-02-2012 03:14 PM

I agree...both ways would look nice. A 2 1/2 inch border would be a nice frame.

I agree that a dark binding would finish it nicely. Also, a label will help to keep her quilt from getting lost or "walking away" by accident while she's in surgery. I, too, wish her a quick recovery. Thanks for sharing.

MadQuilter 07-02-2012 04:15 PM

Best wishes to your sister on a speedy recovery. I think using the dark blue in the binding would finish it off nicely.

sept97 07-03-2012 02:57 AM

very pretty quilt, what I would do is use the dark for the back and make it larger then fold it over to use as the border. I find that to be the easiest was (for me)

glorcour 07-03-2012 03:43 AM

yes, no, maybe. lovely little quilt as is but if you want it bigger, go for a border.

jcrow 07-03-2012 03:52 AM

Very pretty quilt. I like it as it is. By the way, I sent a quilt 4 hours away to my daughter in the hospital and she received it just fine. No problems whatsoever.

WMUTeach 07-03-2012 06:03 AM

I would give it a solid border but.... that is just my opinion. Do what feels right to you. (And if you can border without going back to the store for more fabric.)

bibi 07-03-2012 06:08 AM

Either way like others said, but a solid border might emphasize the design even more. It is truly a lovely and inspiring quilt. It will uplift your sister's spirit.
