I have made 29 quilts and do not have one! I had a memory book with pictures and stories of each quilt - but lost it in Hurricane Katrina. Family members have most of them, so I do see them from time to time. First one? Keep it!

Well, my very first quilt was for my sister - a queen size Dresden Plate....boy did I ever want to keep that quilt!!!....but had to give it up. Sis was not having any of that!

So far all of my finished quilts have been for someone else, as well as most of my UFOs/WIPs. My daughter keeps trying to talk me out of the green one I'm working on that I say is MINE! I told her she'd get it eventually...

My very first was made for my middle son and he has it. Where I'm not sure but his wife appreciates quilts and has kept several I made they are really raggy so I knows it's at their house. The second I have. since then I've made lots and only have a few. I generally make them for gifts.

I made my first quilt for my daughter when she got engaged and she still uses it . That was 1995.

I don't have any quilts I have made (10 so far)...they were all gifts or sold. My first was given to the person who purchased a book and CD to teach quilting....then the second companion quilt....BUT...I have kept a 'diary' of the quilts I have completed.

I gave away my first FINISHED quilt. It was a baby quilt. I took photos of it but was happy to give it away for it's intended use: a baby.
Your first quilt is great. I see much more freedom in your fabric selection than I had starting out and I like the variety. |
My first quilt was a large lap quilt, that was a challenge quilt in the guild that I had just joined. It was a quilt for a Wounded Soldier, and they never got mine sent, and gave it back to me. It will finally be sent off this fall with some others. They asked if I would like to keep it, since it was my first, but I told them that I made it for a Soldier that has fought for my freedom, and that is who should get it. I have only kept 3 small wall hangings in 6 years. One was a practice watercolor, and two others were challenge pieces for quilt shows. Everything else I make and give away. I keep saying, someday I will make something for me. :)

I gave my first quilt to my 14 year old son. I was shocked that as I was finishing it, that he asked who it was for. I had planned on keeping it for myself. He said that he wanted it, so how could I not let him have it. Since then I have made him a quilt for his high school graduation and a Christmas quilt- using Charlie Brown/Peanuts fabric, but he still has that first quilt on his bed.
