I was trying to sort my fabric's today. I have been collecting black, white and red fab's for a quilt. I had not kept track of how much I have but I think I have plenty. I didn't have a pattern picked out until yesterday. I found 1 in a quilt magazine yesterday that will work perfectly. It is called giant patch work pattern.

I want to see what you have been collecting for a particular quilt too!!

Fabric I have been collecting. I may have enough for a couple of quilts!

Pattern I found.

you have the perfect pattern for your collection

I buy when I am ready to start a quilt. I do not buy for "someday". At least most of the time.

I think you found the perfect pattern. When I started buying fabric - I just bought jelly rolls from Walmart so I could practice - now I love fabric - I am very partial to green - but also like blues, purples, yellows. But now I will purchase whatever catches my eye.

Carrie, I LOVE your collection of R,B & W and the pattern you selected will be perfect. Any chance of it being done before I get there in April so that I can see it in person? I've been saving the same colors, but don't have anywhere near the amount that you do. This is going to be a very beautiful quilt.
I'm not partial to any color of fabrics, but have been really building up a stash of Civil War repros and 30's repros.

cjomomma 02-23-2011 07:52 AM

I don't think I will have even started it by then. I have all those charity quilts to get done first but we will see!

LovingIzabella 02-23-2011 07:58 AM

ORANGE!!!!!! I rarely find it and I love it so when I do see it welllllll
I love your red white and blacks (another favorite combo of mine!)
Hugs
April

Carrie... I find myself collecting in certain styles, not colors. I have jewel tones, 30's, civil war, and others. What I don't have alot of is muted like thimbleberries. I like in tropical south florida, so I tend to do high contrast, clear toned quilts. Or themed quilts like civil war and 30s styles.

Out of those, I especially like blues and greens.

buckyfan19 02-23-2011 08:05 AM

Isn't it fun when you get all the pieces together and then you are ready to run! It looks like it will be an awesome quilt! I cant wait to see pics.

luvstitches 02-23-2011 08:06 AM

Those fabrics are going to be perfect with that quilt pattern. Really love the stash.

grammysews4u 02-23-2011 08:08 AM

perfect pattern, lovely fabrics, will be a beauty!

tucsonquilter 02-23-2011 08:08 AM

I also have been collecting red, white and black for a quilt. I dont have as much as you have yet but I will get there. How much yardage did you buy at a time? I have been buying one yard of the prints so I hope that is enough for the top at least.

tlcquiltnut 02-23-2011 08:10 AM

I seem to radiate towards reds and turquois....this years colors are fabulous. That said I can't resist all color ranges...lol. Nice to be addicted isn't it.....lol

Deara 02-23-2011 08:13 AM

I love your collection of reds and blacks with white.
I can see all those pretty colors being used for the pattern you chose.

I have collected purples and blues.
I used the purples to make myself a patchwork jacket & a Bow Tuck purse.

Right now I am making myself a Sampler quilt with the blues. I have two blocks done and haven't and hoping I won't use any one color twice. Yup, I too think I collected too many. lol

Blessings,
Sandi

I think most of it is 1yd. a couple of pieces are 2yd. I bought most of it off the clearance table at WM. It was all stuck in different places so I was surprised at what I had when I stacked it all together. :-)

cjomomma 02-23-2011 08:20 AM

I'm thinking I may have enough for pillow cases and curtains.

tucsonquilter 02-23-2011 08:37 AM

LOL

fayza 02-23-2011 08:38 AM

Awesome! That will be gorgeous

alaskasunshine 02-23-2011 08:45 AM

Love your fabrics and your pattern! What magazine is the pattern in? I have white pink and black in a basket for a quilt and this pattern would be wonderful. :-D

nnewman 02-23-2011 08:46 AM

I am constantly on the look out for fabric that has good combinations of colors in it. Then I will add other fabric from my stash or purchase it as I see it and somehow it all comes together.

I saw and was attracted to that quilt pattern and colors in the magazine. You have collected the perfect fabrics to do it in. And yes, you will probably have enough of a couple of quilts! I'm thinking of doing the pattern in black, red, and touches of hot pink.

RedGarnet222 02-23-2011 08:48 AM

OOOOoooo I love the new pattern! Go for it cjmomma!

I usually go the different way. I see a pattern I want to make and put snippets of the fabric colors and sizes I need in a notebook I carry with me. It is also filled with notations on the size needles and threads I need and whatnots. That way I don't have to try and remember what I need when I am there in the store. (I get distracted with all that eye candy lying around to buy.... LOL)

The name is Quilts. April/May 2011. Step by step with the experts. I got it at walmart.

Thank you for the wonderful comments.

Thanks so much for the information!!! Your quilt will be wonderful.

Kehoeta 02-23-2011 09:22 AM

I am new to quilting so I am still creating my stash. I've been hunting at the thrift stores and on craigslist. So what I have on hand is not in any certain color scheme or type.

However - I personally prefer all the jewel tones and fabrics with geometric or complicated prints. Not so much flowers.

Jim's Gem 02-23-2011 10:25 AM

Pretty fabrics!! That will be a beautiful quilt!!!

Purples and greens are what I collect, Especially if they are together in the same fabric. But have lots of just greens and just purples. I have also been collecting Asian fabrics.

jdiane318 02-23-2011 10:28 AM

Teals, light, medium, dark, batiks, solids. I am either going to make a Judy Martin Double Wedding Ring or a Bargello or a regular Double Wedding Ring. I probably have enough collected for to make all 3. I also love batiks. Have made several scrap ones using batik scraps.

MamaBear61 02-23-2011 12:42 PM

That is going to be very nice. I like earth tones and black and whites. I always have a hard time picking out blues or purples.

justlooking 02-24-2011 03:48 AM

I collect blues, and florals.

thenonnielady 02-24-2011 04:07 AM

For some reason I have three stacks of different shades of blue. I am not particularily a blue fan.

emerald46 02-24-2011 04:22 AM

When I destashed a couple of weeks back I was surprised how many blues and greens I had collected. I saw that pattern and thought what a way to showcase some of the really pretty larger prints I've seen recently.

pieces 02-24-2011 05:25 AM

I usually choose a pattern first, then start buying fabric for the quilt. I have more greens and bugundys in my stash.

abc123retired 02-24-2011 05:37 AM

I collect blues. Love 'em.

janiesews 02-24-2011 05:40 AM

Thanks for listing the pattern information. I have also collected reds. whites and blacks. Then I have quite a collection of fall leaf colors.

SherriB 02-24-2011 05:43 AM

I am drawn to shades of pink. It is my favorite color and probably what I have most of.

I always buy fabric I like and worry about patterns latter. :) It's more fun that way. I really like the pattern you have chosen and can't wait to see your quilt being made. :)

Yooper32 02-24-2011 06:01 AM

Yes, I collect red, black white, yellow brown, blue, green, mauve, purple, orange, pink, lavender, and all shades thereof.

MissQuilter 02-24-2011 06:02 AM

I have various assortments of collections.... I have a black and white, batik, civil war, music, working toward a bright, jewel tone group.... eventually I break down and make a quilt from one or another.... I have made three so far from my music collection, and still have more fabric there. I collected for several years... Oh yes, there is my jungle collection. I wanted a jungle theme for my room. Problem is, that in that collection, they do not all go together... so I have SUB collections.... Yes, I guess it is an illness... :)

pineneedles4 02-24-2011 06:06 AM

Yes! I tend to collect batiks...especially in red, white and blue! I'm drawn to reds and blues mostly though. And...I LOVE rose print fabric!
