Doodle Quilting

1 Attachment(s)
I picked up the book Doodle Quilting by Cheryl Malkowski that had over 120 continuous line machine quilting designs and decided to take a stab at the rose. Don't look too closely at the stitches as my machine is skipping but my little trial didn't turn out too bad. She has some nice designs in her book with easy to follow drawings.

It looks perfect to me!!! I have said for years that I am going to learn FMQing. Each time I practice I have to put it away for a while and then I have forgetten everything and start all over! I need to make it a priority!

Wow! That's awesome! I can see that's a book I need! I'm such a rookie at FM! Thanks so much for the info.

Looks like you had fun! Love FMQ, and the more you do the easier it gets. I think continuous lines are the way to go, too...the further you can go without cutting the thread the better!

QuiltnNan 04-07-2013 10:05 AM

it's lovely... you should frame it :)

cjackaitlin 04-07-2013 10:11 AM

That's funny, I just opened her book this morning. I forgot I had it. She does wonderful things. Your flower looks just like the book, good job.

What a wonderful quilted rose, I think you did a great job. I need that book, I have never tried FM quilting yet. I am too chicken, I don't want to mess any thing up, so I need to practice on a plain piece of fabric. Thank you for sharing with us.

ScrapQuilter 04-07-2013 02:35 PM

Well done......... might have to look for the book.......... thanks for sharing.

jmoore 04-09-2013 03:59 AM

you did a great job... you should definitely save it... I love going back to beginning projects to compare how well I've improved at something but yours is just about perfect as it is.

Jeannette51 04-09-2013 05:33 AM

baywinds 04-09-2013 07:10 AM

Good practicing. I picked up on your statement that your machine is skipping.(Bottom right leaf?) Music to my ears. Mine does too, and I try to diagnose when and why. It "sounds" to me like the needle is not going all the way down and engaging the bobbin thread. I have tried numerous combinations, mixed the threads up, tension, changing the needle, speed, yada yada. No one seems to give a good solid fix. What is your take on why it skips? I have a 2 year old Babylock Symphony, routinely serviced, and the dealer doesn't have an answer.

bibi 04-09-2013 07:10 AM

Awesome job!

catmcclure 04-09-2013 08:10 AM

Thanks for the tip. I just bought a copy.

paintmejudy 04-09-2013 08:48 AM

This could be a great quilt as you go project -- All the roses on the same background with different threads? Or the other way around. Great job.

faykilgore 04-09-2013 08:58 AM

Did you mark your lines or just free hand doodle? I may not follow them exactly, but I still need marks to stay on task.

Lilrain 04-09-2013 10:26 AM

Wow, looks good to me. My moves are so jerky

ArtsyOne 04-09-2013 10:52 AM

Very impressive - the extent of my courage is meandering, so I applaud you!
