That is just sooooo spacious and organized. Wow I hope you enjoy every minute when working there.

JackieG 08-03-2010 08:09 PM

You've made us all envious. It's just perfect.

jilloc 08-03-2010 08:22 PM

What a fantastic sewing room, looks so inviting, If it was mine I would be putting my bed in there too, so never having to leave it....Enjoy many happy hours of sewing :)

Sheree from Chicago 08-03-2010 08:40 PM

What a fantastic space!

annette1952 08-03-2010 08:49 PM

Your sewing room is perfect! You have alot of room & good light. Gorgeous quilts hanging. Everything you need is right there. Thanks for sharing!

adrianlee 08-03-2010 09:13 PM

Love your sewing room, it's so clean. Mine always looks like a big storm hit it hard. Enjoy your new home.

Matilda 08-03-2010 09:45 PM

Very nice

GailG 08-03-2010 09:49 PM

What an awesome studio. As an old retired "school marm" I can think of only one thing that is missing. Does it have the "smell" of a school room? There's something about walking into a schoolroom and taking in all the scents -- books, paper, chalk, etc. Yes, it's been 12 years since I retired, but I still miss "my room."

Your hanging rod for your quilts gives me an idea for my room.

Lucky Patsy's 08-04-2010 12:50 AM

Wow! that is one serious setup!

The cork was already installed, all we did was give it a couple of fresh coats of clear, matt varnish and I have to say, it's ideal - warm and soft on my barefoot (I always hop around in one shoe, right foot bare for the foot pedal!) and easy to clean. I got one of those swiffy duster on a stick things, like at the hairdressers, a friend said and a quick flick round with that picks up all the threads and scraps. :-D

On site tours by appointment, all welcome, Pimms served in the garden afterwards. ;) Oh, don't know if you have Pimms in the States, it's a classic English summer drink, a kind of punch with fruit in it, and it's deceptively strong so we'll all be giggly in no time! )

Hi Jennie and welcome! The table is a Janome which is designed for my specific machine, a Janome 6600. I got it mail order here in England and it cost around £200. It's brilliant and I would highly recommend something similar to suit your own particular brand of machine. I think you'd have to get the specific one so that the cut out hole was the right size and shape - I don't know how the generic ones work as I've never seen one. :-D

Would love to see pics of each one opened out.I think there is another thread where folks were showing pics of their sewing rooms. Thanks again for making me so glad I joined this group!

Yes it is. It's made of the local stone called 'hamstone' which is a golden colour and has lots of fossils in it - this part of England's coastline is known as the Jurassic Coast. The front of the house has a magnolia tree which must be stunning in May - can't wait to see it! And a wisteria which will also be stunning - I moved in too late this year to see either! The back garden is indeed full of roses and lots of other English country garden flowers, although it's very overgrown as the former tenants neglected it. I'm gradually licking it back into shape. I don't have any pictures on the laptop - once I get my main PC working again (don't ask!) I'll post some pics of the house and garden. :-D

If you'd like to see more of my quilts, click on my name then click on topics created, scroll through all the waffle and click on the ones in 'Pictures'. Most of them have been posted here. And thanks very much for your interest. :-D

OK Terri, here's what we do, we get that part of her avatar pic digitally enhanced then we drive round Connecticut, looking for the house, then we break in and help ourselves to the wine! You drive, I'll look!

Hey Joanne, you know we're kidding! I'd love to come and visit - I was a leaf peeper once myself, years ago aged around 9 when we lived in Canada. I don't really remember but I'm thinking at that age, I wasn't very impressed, so I'd love to come back again some day when I now WILL appreciate it! :-D And yes, I'd have to drop in on BW - she's going to show me NYC! Anyone heard from her BTW? I haven't for a couple of days. :-(

No, doesn't smell at all! I don't think it's been used as a school for more than 15 years. :-( I remember the smell you describe though from my own school days. :D Now it smells of spray starch mostly!

k3n 08-04-2010 01:32 AM

Sorry about the multiple posts - it was the only way I could make sure I answered all the specific questions. And thanks to everyone else for you interest and compliments.

And weezie - thanks for being 'tickled pink'! :-D :-D :-D

Wonderful space and beautiful quilts too. Thanks for sharing.

carmen4him 08-04-2010 11:27 AM

Awesome room. There is nothing like having a separate room for sewing quilting or crafting. My DH designed one for me in our basement. I make soy candles as well so he even put in a little stove and sink cabinets counter the whole nine yards. The only problem is I have run out of room. It is not as big as yours. I call it my Happy Zone because I am always happy when I am being creative. God Bless you and yours, he already has with your new home and room. Happy Stitchin

k3n 08-04-2010 11:42 AM

Awww thanks for that. Both of you. I must say I am as happy as a pig in muck in here as my Granny used to say! :-D

Very nice. Everything looks so neat.

k3n 08-04-2010 01:08 PM

Thank you , I can't work in a mess, I'm one of those TIDY ppl!!!

Mornigstar 08-04-2010 01:16 PM

If I still had my last house I would invite you all for a get-together and I even had room for campers with power/sewer.

I would bake scones and serve tea --& I am in ON Canada not UK. Don't have such a fantastic sewing area but you are always welcome . We offer pontoon boat rides on Pigeon Lake
when people visit in place of having mini horses.

rwquilts 08-04-2010 01:35 PM

Wowieee, wowieee, wowieee! Wonderful room!

SharonC 08-04-2010 01:46 PM

What a beautiful sewing room. I can picture the old English school houses (went to two when I was little), and they would be just perfect for a quilting (creative) room. I also like the half doors that look outside. You're fortunate :) Enjoy.

Rexene 08-04-2010 04:39 PM

Great room and set up. I love the two Ikea tables with the storage bins. They look like they were made to go under the tables! Your quilts are beautiful. I especially like the WIP on your design wall. What are the names of these patterns?

tlrnhi 08-04-2010 08:15 PM

Can I make my appointment now? :)

Thanks Rexene - that's a One Block Wonder made by the technique in the books of the same name by Maxine Rosenthal. They are something of an obsession of mine - that one is my 9th and last night I began cutting my 10th. :-D

OK I finally got back on the PC hoorah! For those that were interested, here's a photo of the outside of the house - my 'studio' (get me!) is to the right and behind the garage, as you look at the pic. :-D

 good use of an amazing room. as a retired school teacher. to have a school room to turn into a sewing room would be just to thrilling to express. great room.... :)
