I love it all except....the center. There's just something slightly off about it to me, the twisted LC's I mean. The rest of the quilt flows so well, but this just doesn't "sync" with the rest. But the rest of the design and colors are gorgematious!!

asmmauer 03-07-2011 07:22 AM

Wow that is awesome maybe you should become a professional designer and sell your patterns I'd buy one.

shemace2901 03-07-2011 07:27 AM

how about "Purple Elegance"

JulieB 03-07-2011 07:38 AM

I prefer the 1st center better; the dark in the center of this design looks like it's a mouth getting ready to swallow something. You can't create a twist that would incorporate all four blocks? or maybe go with a brighter center rather than a dark one if you like the 2nd design better? Overall, the design is stunning; I love the twists!

The mouth thing is exactly what I saw and why I changed it! I prefer the original one myself but have some issues still with it - I know what Gai means... :? Just been looking - it's the 'box' effect around those 4 twist blocks that is bothering me - will have a play and see what I can come up with...

debcavan 03-07-2011 08:06 AM

Breathtaking, simply breathtaking. What a gorgeous design and the colors are wonderful. Thank you for sharing this.

sidmona 03-07-2011 08:07 AM

Oh My! That will be a gorgeous quilt!

labug 03-07-2011 08:08 AM

I've changed the colours in the centre to blend the twist LC blocks into the regular LC blocks surrounding them to try and get away from that 'box'effect. I think this is an improvement, how about you? :-D

gaigai 03-07-2011 08:16 AM

K, how about taking the corner blocks and putting them back to back somehow. I can see how they would look like lips if they were turned one way, but the other way, with the center small square? Oh heck, I'm not the creative one, you are.

Snorky Lvs2Quilt 03-07-2011 08:31 AM

Wow! That is stunning. I love the colors.

barnbum 03-07-2011 08:33 AM

Gulp... at a loss for words, she nods enthusiastically and wonders how you did that on EQ7.

grammy6 03-07-2011 08:38 AM

Stunning! A beautiful design take on the modern traditional! Can't wait to see the progress. Only 5 months till August you better get to sewing...lol Good luck

thimblebug6000 03-07-2011 08:40 AM

I prefer the center in 1 to either of these versions. It has an elegance about the shape, rather than looking just like another twisted log cabin, IMHO.
A stunning design, whichever way you look at it.

Dianne1 03-07-2011 08:41 AM

That is onr of the most beautiful quilts I have seen. Love the colors. What will the dimensions be?

twospoiledhuskies 03-07-2011 09:26 AM

Wow this is awesome. I'm taking the Quilt University Class for EQ7. Hopefully, some day I will make something so beautiful. Great job

Kimkankwilt 03-07-2011 11:08 AM

It is really a beautiful design...and I like the colors.

QuiltswithConvicts 03-07-2011 11:10 AM

K3, that is beautiful!!! WOW!

Looks really wonderful in purples & purple is the complimentary color to my favorite - yellow. I wish I new more about my EQ - don't seem to be able to do anything with it. I only have 5 & since I dont' know much about it, I'm not spending the money on 7. I think I need more time to work on it, but where am I gonna find the time without quitting my job - then it's no more quilting as no more extra $$$. :?

Anyway, your design is beautiful. When are you going to start working on it???

boohoofish 03-07-2011 11:11 AM

This is one gorgeous design. Lots of work involved but would be worth it in the end. Please show WIP and completed quilt!!!

miss_ticky2 03-07-2011 12:42 PM

Nothing special!!?? You gotta be kidding?? That looks awesome :)

quiltilicious 03-07-2011 12:47 PM

Very nice design work! If you need this done by august of this year, you'd better get started SOON! There are a LOT of pieces in that quilt!

cat-on-a-mac 03-07-2011 12:48 PM

That will be a beautiful quilt. And yes, by all means, use batiks, please!!!

barnbum 03-07-2011 01:27 PM

I think I like the last posted center best... but NOT that anyone would notice a problem with any of them!! ;)

plainpat 03-08-2011 02:24 AM

I'm not good at visualizing quilts from a sketch.Log Cabins are well received everywhere.I like your quilt, except for the corners. They remind me of an open jaw.....hey,you asked!
My opinion is, all your work is outstanding & your modern take on a LC will be beautiful. Can't wait to see it & best of luck at the show.

The colours are vague as well and might change once I get in an LQS but I'm thinking batiks... this would be for the contemporary section of the Festival of Quilts, which asked for a modern take on traditional quilting. Does this fit the bill? I thought to regular piece the LCs, PP the twisted, machine applique and FMQ to be decided... any comments gratefully received and when the design is finalised, I'd like to post progress so you can all nag, ermmm, I mean, ENCOURAGE me to finish it in time for August!

Babs194068 03-08-2011 02:56 AM

AWESOME

QweenBee 03-08-2011 03:05 AM

Sheek! Looks Victorian, My friend would love it! Gorgous work!!!

woody 03-08-2011 03:13 AM

That will be one gorgeous quilt, especially in batiks.
I still prefer the first pattern, the centre just seems more interesting somehow. The second one looks like a cartoon mouth lol. But the 3rd design is lighter in the centre and it does make the quilt seem brighter.

Any of them will be stunning I'm sure.
I'll make sure that I give you plenty of "encouragement" to get it done by the deadline

Suzanne in VT 03-08-2011 03:52 AM

I just love that twisted log cabin block. Did you create that particular design yourself, or, is that a block that can be found in a book. If you designed it yourself, I'd buy a copy of that block from you!

If it doesn't work I don't any big deal its wonderful!

Thats kind of on purpose and funny you should pick up on that! I tried it with the points in and thought it looked a bit predictable - this was gave some tension to the design and made it more interesting, I thought. I really value your comments though, thank you. I'm about to head out with the dog but when I get back, I'll post the other version and see what you think :-D

The person asking for as tute - this is just fiddling about in EQ with the blocks in the library - hours of twisting and turning to get to this point! Did you mean a tute on how to get the design or how to make the actual quilt?

Predictible yes! That's me though - LOL I think its beautiful.
