I've wanted to do a vintage looking quilt and I saw some pretty fabric today with roses and gingham, etc. I did this tonight after a lot of playing with the fabrics but not totally sure about it yet. I think it needs to be simple with classic elements. What do you think? Any suggestions?

dglvr 02-04-2010 10:56 PM

Well I think this pattern and the fabrics are perfect together.
It looks great to me. Beautifal.

sunkistmi 02-04-2010 11:12 PM

I love this! Do you think you would consider sharing the pattern??? I think I even have some fabric that looks like the border fabric. This is a very romantic and 'feel good' quilt. Absolutely gorgeous.

Very pretty!

kathyd 02-05-2010 03:58 AM

WOW! I really like that. It has a lot going on but the blocks are not difficult and there is lots of open space for fancy quilting.
I say don't change a thing.
Please post pictures of your progress on this quilt.

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 02-05-2010 04:33 AM

I LOVE IT!!

renee765 02-05-2010 06:25 AM

I love your design! And it does feel 'vintage'. Reminds me of bedding my mother used to have when I was little - and that was definitely a long time ago!

sewnsewer2 02-05-2010 06:34 AM

That's going to be gorgeous!

dkabasketlady 02-05-2010 06:39 AM

Thank you for the votes to not change anything. :-) I let it simmer and it's growing on me. Looking at the fabric requirements there are a LOT of difference fabrics in the collection that I used so I cut it down to just 8 of them. It doesn't look any different really, just used the same blues, same greens, etc. I kept the main fabrics the same. I will need two darker blue pieces for the birds from my stash and brown for their legs.

Yes, I can share the pattern. I'm thinking about which way to do some of the blocks. It's a toss up between what is "easiest" or what's "neatest". I think it would look better with one white triangle rather than using white squares.

JRSAY 02-05-2010 08:24 AM

The small pieces would make your quilt look older..think of back then the size of fabrics and how hard to get.
If you want any helps when you get it done there is always a bed that needs a new quilt here.

I love too, the only thing I would change would be the orientation of the fussy cuts, I would turn 2 of them to be facing the other way.

Ok, final cut. :P This shows the patched triangles and only using 8 fabrics. I am not totally sure that the scale of the large floral is right but I will fussy cut it so that the motif is centered and oriented the right way. I'll get them ordered today.

The overall size of 72"x72" is dependent on what size the border repeat is, which I haven't really looked for yet, but this is based on 6" wide. The next row is 6" blocks, then 12" blocks. The inner red border is 1 1/2" and the center medallion is 21".

That is going to be fabulous. What great fabrics and I love your pattern. I can't wait to see the quilt.

Jim's Gem 02-05-2010 11:32 AM

That's a beautiful design Pam!!! Looking forward to seeing it put together.
I got EQ6 for Christmas and had my first class on it Wed night. I had fun "designing" quilts. You seem to have a great grasp on how to use the program!!

pittsburgpam 02-05-2010 11:39 AM

It's a pretty simple design and shouldn't take long to do once I get the fabric. I like EQ6 (I didn't when I had EQ4). I often play with designs on my laptop while sitting on the couch and listening to the TV. It is a big help in figuring yardage too!

sunkistmi 02-05-2010 11:48 AM

Is the center motif a panel or is it appliqued?

pittsburgpam 02-05-2010 12:50 PM

The center motif is an applique design from the Folk Art add-on that I got for EQ6.

jljack 02-05-2010 01:45 PM

I think it's beautiful, Pam. I am going to learn how to use my EQ6 this year...I've had it for over a year and never used it yet. My friend blessed me with it, and at the time I was overwhelmed with other stuff. Seeing how everyone uses it really is inspiring me to learn it.

I love how you mixed the block patterns, the applique center and the fabric selections. Really nice placement and color choices.!!! Love it!! Please post it when you do it. Janice

pittsburgpam 02-05-2010 01:48 PM

Oh wow... I just got the email that the fabric order I place this morning for this has shipped. :)

susie0808 02-05-2010 04:34 PM

I think your pattern is beautiful! The quilt will look amazing! Show us pictures when complete!

pittsburgpam 02-05-2010 05:18 PM

jljack, EQ6 is a fun program and there is so much that I don't know about it and there are amazing designs I have seen done with it. Have fun with it.

I'm sure I'll be posting about the progress of the quilt.

Janstar 02-05-2010 07:12 PM

It's going to be gorgeous Pam! Love, love, love the colors!

It reminds me of my grandma. I have an old, yellowed table cloth of her's that has flowers on it. It was wrapped around a doll with doll quilt.

It's my own design and I've been tweaking it. I finished off the corners of the red checked Jacob's Ladders. What about the big piece of floral? Does it look OK or strange out there all alone? What about making the whole corner floral?

quiltincharlotte 02-06-2010 09:55 AM

WOW! I love it just the way it is!! I would love the pattern name, too!
