You can use different patterns, I believe. The idea is to use all novelty fabrics that kids can pick out recognizeable objects. I have been using 5" squares with 1 1/2" sashing and a border if you like. You can also fussycut a hexagon and sew triangles around each one. The disappearing 9-patch also works. Any other ideas from other quilters?

I got 1 yard of each fabric. From the fabric I got at the LQS, I probably had about 1/4 a yard left. They are very generous with their cutting.

Fabric from Hobby Lobby and Hancock Fabric left me with less than a 1/4 yard. They cut it exactly with no room for squaring up the fabrics.
