Finally decided to get back to it
3 Attachment(s)
After a traumatic life event two years ago, I finally returned to my studio this month and completed two ufo's. I'm pretty sure my quilting days are just about over as evidenced by the poor quilting done on these two. However, I do enjoy piecing and may still do a few and pass them on for others to finish. We'll see . I still have two almost finished tops and another Jimmy Beyer pattern with already purchased fabric.
This first is a New York beauty variation copied from a magazine I had years ago (I forget which one) The picture is a jimmy beyer called Faberge. It is one of the few I will keep for myself.l |
Roxanne, It is wonderful that you returned to quilting. Please don't give up just because you feel you aren't as good as you once were. I personally would be thrilled to own any of the above pieces. Sometimes we are our own worst critics. Beautiful quilted pieces.
I love the optical illusion created in the first one. The second is just as striking. Welcome back to quilting. I'm glad that you were able to gain some pleasure from it.
Both are beautiful! Keep on quilting as long as you enjoy it!
My goodness, what is wrong with the quilting? Looks good to me. Beautiful quilts. We are always our worst critic. I do the same to myself too. Take care and keep on quilting.
these are great. glad you are back to it.
these are beautiful quilts. More detailed than I could do......
Beautiful!!!
Please continue to quilt! Kirsten |
Both are lovely and I would be happy if mine came out half that good! Do not be so hard on yourself!!!
They look terrific. I wanted to do the aqua one some time back but I need to learn Y seams I think. They look just great to me. Glad you are back at it.
They are beautiful! Welcome back.
You must be a picky picky woman, Roxanne. Those are so much better than I can do. Relax, and keep going. They are great!
You still got it girl!! Love your work!!
Both quilts are beautiful and I see nothing wrong with your quilting.
Very nice!
Roxanne, I love your work! And tackling Jinny Beyer is a feat in itself. I adore her work but have always had trouble with it.
Keep on keepin on! :) |
your work is beautiful and love the colors. so pass it on to someone else to quilt it. a lot of people do.
They are gorgeous. Don't be so hard on yourself. I'm a piecer myself. Don't really like quilting - never did - so out they go to someone who enjoys it.
You should be proud of yourself. These are beautiful. BrendaK

Glad you got back to quilting. It's good therapy! Don't give up because they didn't measure up in your mind. I think they both are very nice!
Of course your skills can get "dusty" after some time away, but these look fantastic to me. I think you're expecting too much of yourself after your sabbatical. Keep at it and I hope you can just enjoy the process.
I like them. You did a good job.
Beautiful quilts and quilting.
So glad you are back. Just keep going. |
There just stunning, please don't give up. One day at a time. Life happens but you did return and an amazing job. Thank you for sharing.
My personal opinion is that they are stunning and well worth your great effort. martie in ca
Both are very beautiful.
Please keep quilting. You are much better at it than you are giving yourself credit. I'm hard on myself too, but do the parts that you enjoy and keep on.

Those are fabulous.
Lovely quilts! Glad you are back in the sewing room. I know my skills aren't up to what I was previously capable of, but I still enjoy the fabric and colors. Most all of mine go to Project Linus as pieced tops for someone else to finish up. They don't have to be perfect--just colorful and made with love!
Beautiful quilts, be proud what you've made. Keep on piecing and let someone else finish them if you feel you can't do a good enough job on them. Many quilters are just piecers.
Love all the quilts and especially the first one. I have that pattern but haven't done it yet. You've done a great job, keep up your good work.
Your quilts are lovely and (not knowing what you experienced in the past) quilting just might be a "dose of good medicine". Don't give up. I haven't been able to quilt for about 2 years either but I look forward to getting back to it. Sometimes I just go in the spare bedroom where I sew/quilt and look at some fabrics. I'm sure I will have to re-learn a few things but that's okay.
Keep up the good work. |
Just keep on quilting! Those pictures are great. Just enjoy the process and heck with any errors you see. Take it from us, we are our own worst enemies. Most non-quilters won't even see the errors.
Roxanne, these quilts are beautiful. It's great that you are back to quilting. Don't worry if your work isn't as good as it use to be, at least you are doing what you love. Keep on sewing!!
Roxanne, I'm sorry about your troubles, but don't give up on quilting. Your work is beautiful. That Ginny Beyer quilt is a masterpiece.
If you still enjoy it................keep on truckin'. Don't compare yourself to others, just follow your own path. Everyone starts out learning and if you're starting over, give yourself some slack. I think your quilts are gorgeous, quilting too.
Beautiful. I am sorry that you had to take a hiatus, but full steam ahead now.
Quilts look very nice to me.
Roxanne, I don't know what the change of life event you had, but you've done some beautiful work on these. I'm just a rank amateur, and while I've made some quilts, the ones I've made are nothing compared to your work. You are bound to be a little out of practice, but you just need to keep on keepin' on. Only by practice can we hope to maintain our skills. It may take a little time, but you'll get there! Beautiful colors, beautiful quilting.
Please keep quilting, the quilting world would be so lost without such a gifted quilter as yourself. Your work is so beautiful and I'm sure so many quilters would benefit from your talent and experience
