Finally finished my 2013 BOM

This BOM was supposed to challenge us to learn new things. It was entitled "Yes we can!" I continued that theme as I laid out this quilt on point. It is a quilt-as-you-go and free-motion quilted on my domestic machine. I loved every minute of it, but none more than with that final stitch. :o

Nice job! Lovely quilt and sweet inspector.

jbening 09-24-2014 11:47 AM

Beautiful quilt, great job. I have still to do a QAYG so it is on my bucket list.

QuiltnNan 09-24-2014 11:48 AM

very nicely done!!! and congrats on the finish

IrishgalfromNJ 09-24-2014 11:50 AM

Love the top and the back. So pretty. Your quilt inspector is pretty, too.

Very nice quilt. You did a great job on your piecing and the quilting. You should be proud, your kitty is!

nygal 09-24-2014 11:55 AM

QUILTNMO 09-24-2014 12:05 PM

great job very pretty!!!

MFord 09-24-2014 12:06 PM

That's a lovely quilt and it shows all the hours and days of work you put into it! I love the diagonals on the back. Your quilting is very nice as well!

audsgirl 09-24-2014 12:17 PM

It's beautiful, and I love how you worked the backing fabrics. You got a fancy back without having to work too hard at it. Your quilting is lovely, too.

Leslie

kindleaddict63 09-24-2014 01:50 PM

That is a beautiful quilt! well done .

maryb119 09-24-2014 01:54 PM

Beautiful! It looks like you quilted each block and then put it together...is that right? You did a beautiful job.

Tweety2911 09-24-2014 02:46 PM

Beautiful quilt in such pretty colors! Nice Backing also!

rural01 09-24-2014 02:58 PM

Thanks bjchad. Kasey and I appreciate it.

nunnyJo 09-24-2014 02:59 PM

beautiful BOM

rural01 09-24-2014 03:03 PM

Thanks jbening. QAYG scared the heck out of me, but it was the only way I wanted to tackle all that free motion quilting. It is so much easier to quilt individual blocks on the machine than a whole quilt. I have to say, all the hand sewing on the back was a bit tedious, but it goes pretty quickly.

rural01 09-24-2014 03:05 PM

Thanks QuiltnNan. As much as I loved doing this, I love the end the most!

rural01 09-24-2014 03:06 PM

Thanks IrishgalfromNJ, from both Kasey and me. She is actually one of five. I have her mother and three sisters as well. They all love quilts.

rural01 09-24-2014 03:08 PM

Thanks Nammie to 7. Kasey is easily impressed. :-)

rural01 09-24-2014 03:09 PM

Thanks! :-)

jeanne49 09-24-2014 03:10 PM

That is an absolutely beautiful quilt and I also love the back. Love those colors.

rural01 09-24-2014 03:11 PM

Thank you! :-)

rural01 09-24-2014 03:13 PM

Thank you; I appreciate the observation. I loved every part of making this even though it was way beyond my comfort zone. I learned so much while doing it. That is really the best part.

rural01 09-24-2014 03:16 PM

Thanks Leslie. QAYG makes the backing a design element all its own. I really love having two quilts in one.

rural01 09-24-2014 03:16 PM

Thanks BrendaK. :-)

rural01 09-24-2014 03:18 PM

Thanks Lori. I have to say, Kasey is pretty easy to please. :-)

rural01 09-24-2014 03:18 PM

Thanks kindleaddict63! :-)

rural01 09-24-2014 03:24 PM

Thanks Mary. You are correct. The quilt-as-you-go technique makes the free-motion quilting so much easier than having to manipulate an entire quilt. Being able to turn the blocks when needed is such a plus. I can't imagine how difficult it is to try to move a whole quilt in such a small space. I am going to try it some day though. The only really tedious part of doing it this way is hand stitching the binding on each and every block on the back. One day I may try to do the binding strips by machine, but I wasn't ready for that step quite yet.

rural01 09-24-2014 03:26 PM

Thanks Helen. This was the first time a made a quilt that wasn't mono-chromatic. I always stuck to the safety of one basic color. Now I have to admit I love the colors.

rural01 09-24-2014 03:27 PM

Thanks NunnyJo! I love BOM's.

rural01 09-24-2014 03:30 PM

Thanks Jeanne. This is my first quilt with more than one color. I was a little nervous when I started it, but I like how it turned out. So, I guess I'm hooked. I love the colors too.

joyce888 09-24-2014 03:36 PM

Very pretty quilt.

Quilter 65 09-24-2014 04:37 PM

Pretty quilt and congrats on the different techniques you learned and obviously mastered. I can relate to DONE!

gabeway 09-25-2014 04:22 AM

You did beautifully!

ManiacQuilter2 09-25-2014 05:41 AM

Your cat seems to be pleased with the quilt.

Homespun 09-25-2014 05:54 AM

congratulations on a job well done...beautiful colors.

rural01 09-25-2014 07:09 AM

Thanks Joyce! :-)

rural01 09-25-2014 07:11 AM

Thanks Quilter 65. Last night I realized there is one better moment than the final stitch--it is wrapping up in a new quilt just out of the dryer. These cool nights are just perfect.
