Well folks here it is the quilt that has taken me 15 yrs ( that's right fifteen years). It's called the painted heart quilt and I got the pattern out of a Magazine 15 yrs ago. The hearts were to be stenciled but I appliqued them on and zig zagged around them. I machine pieced but hand quilted. My one goal this year was to finish it and I did!!! I have so many WIP and so many more projects I want to do. I have made a vow to myself as to never again take this long to finish a project. By the way, the quilt has been to West Va. Ohio, Virginia. and back to Ohio.

It's beautiful! Some things are worth the wait! Now that you attained this goal, you need to set another! :) What's up next?

Boston1954 03-02-2010 02:48 PM

That is great!! I had a project that I started in 1982 and finished in 2008. It was not a quilt though. I did the Nativity in needlepoint. 6 feet by 2 feet. 180,000 stitches. I can't show it here because of it being something other than quilting.

Jim's Gem 03-02-2010 02:51 PM

Beautiful quilt!! Aren't you glad you finished!!!

roselady 03-02-2010 04:02 PM

I understand exactly where you are coming from. I am almost finished hand quilting a top that I started 14 years ago. I never want to do that again. In that 14 years I have learned a lot, especially about color, so now all I see in this quilt is what I should have done differently, which makes it even harder to finish. Your quilting is wonderful, any idea how many hours the quilting took?

thequilteddove 03-02-2010 04:04 PM

It's a goreous quilt! Your quilting is beautiful.

blahel 03-02-2010 04:08 PM

You took such good care of this quilt, even had enough fabric to finish it. And your handquilting! Wonderful

jewelps 03-03-2010 05:41 AM

that just has to be mine LOL it looks wonderful

My Mother was cross stitching 18" rose sqaures before she passed . I finished the cross stitch now I have to layer it and hand quilt it. That will be a heirloom for my granddaughter. As for how many hours it took me to make the painted quilt,I would have to guess at about I would say about a month if I worked on it 8 hours a days every day for 30 days. That would include cutting the fabric and piecing and layering , basting and hand quilting and putting the binding on. I want to thank everyone for your so kind comments and praises. I do love this quilt and I have two more tops of the smae pattern but in blue. The only thing I am going to change is the patterns for hand quilting. God only know when I will get to that. I am also glad that I am not alone when it comes to taking 15 yrs to finish a project. And yes it was worth the wait. I have about 10 tops ready to be layered and quilting . Does anyone else in this situation. I love making tops.

Such beautiful colors and I love the design.....
I'm so glad it is a UFO no longer, it must be very satisfying to have finished it!

Candace 03-03-2010 07:02 AM

Congrats. I've got a quilt that's been a UFO for about 15 years, too. It must feel great to cross it off the list.

alaskasunshine 03-03-2010 08:30 AM

liwilliams 03-03-2010 08:46 AM

Awww....that is so very pretty. It's worth waiting 15 years! Good job. You should be proud of yourself!

Feathers 03-03-2010 09:04 AM

Your quilt is absolutely lovely...I really like the embroidered hearts in the corner squares next to the appliqued hearts. Very nice! Thanks for sharing this USA-TRAVELLED quilt. When you put your quilt label on it you should share "IT's STORY" on the label. In a 100 years or so your great, great, great grands will love reading about the quilt.

no1jan 03-03-2010 09:08 AM

It is absolutely beautiful. Now it's time to enjoy it.
Thanks for sharing.
