A great quilt! Lots of work involved I imagine.

justflyingin 03-25-2011 09:46 PM

Did you sew the little 3" squares onto muslin or paper first, or just create the squares with the scraps?

You did a beautiful job! I love it!!

Suzi 03-26-2011 04:18 AM

Thank you for posting this totally enjoyable quilt ... next on my bucket list is a crumb and your idea of several pp blocks was like an AHA! moment for me. I'm totally scrappy and LOVE YOUR QUILT!

I didn't use any foundation...just took a small piece and started to create blocks making a straight edge to get a nice seam and worked from there! When I thought it big enough, I'd press it nicely and then put my 3 1/2" square on top and when it was big enough, I would trim it, making it as interesting as I could.

Thank you everyone for your very kind words...I'm glad some of you are going to give this a whirl!

cavmom 03-26-2011 06:10 AM

wow, that is colorful and i love how you incorporated the frogs and sailboat. Very scrappy and creative :)

Wonderful quilt!!! But what is a "crumb block"? Looks like crazy quilt blocks that I have done before. I just love the brightness of the quilt and the cute PP blocks also.

This is exactly how I felt about your quilt. Love doing crumb blocks and your little motif blocks are a darling addition.

To me, a crumb block is like a crazy quilt block, but without the emblishments. For some reasons, all the old names are being changed. But I think this is a wonderful, descriptive name for all the "crumbs" left over from sewing....

cwessel47 03-26-2011 06:36 AM

An inspiration indeed. If I only did a couple at a time - with the current scraps - before you know it, I'd have a quilt. Right?!? You've done a beautiful job!

MomtoBostonTerriers 03-26-2011 06:45 AM

Beautiful quilt! Beautiful craftmanship! You are a creative genius and your quilt is a treasure.

I'd love to visit you for the week-end and we could make crumb blocks from dawn 'til dark -- what fun that would be.

Vickymomof6 03-26-2011 06:46 AM

I love it too! Scrappy is my middle name!

reach for the stars 2 03-26-2011 06:46 AM

That is so neat love it

SandyinZ4 03-26-2011 06:52 AM

I am echoing everyone else's opinions and saying what a wonderful way to make a crumb quilt unique. I think I too will try this as I create my crumb squares from my leaders and enders as I sew other projects. Plus I will also get in some PP practice. I so appreciate your sharing your wonderful creation and inspiring the rest of us.

purrfectquilts 03-26-2011 07:17 AM

Very cute and well put together. I know that was fun to make.

reeskylr 03-26-2011 07:21 AM

I agree Lynn! We used to call them crazy patch blocks but they were maybe a bit larger and we embellished them? It was on this board that I found out their new name and I kinda like it!

Thanks everyone for your compliments!

That's exactly right! Just one or two here and there in between all your other projects! They are completely relaxing to me...no rhyme or reason, just pretty colors and small...sometimes a block contains only 3 or 4 fabrics, and other times more than 20!

I think what makes this one so neat is that the pieces are so tiny. If your original blocks are only 3.5" then you have some very small pieces there... Thus, it rightly deserves the title "crumb" quilt.

And I like the PP trees you've thrown in. It makes your quilt specially interesting.

Great quilt!! You are very artistic and inspirational, thanks for sharing.
