Today I finished our daughter's fireplace opening cover quilt! Hopefully it will help keep some of the cold air out and the warm air in when it's not being used. I enjoyed painting white fabric to make the fire fabric - something new for me to try. She had no idea I was sewing this quilt and was pleasantly surprised!

I don't think I have ever seen a quilt fireplace cover, so clever and you did such a beautiful job.

pgthom 10-20-2011 05:13 PM

Very clever idea. How do you fasten it up there? We have a double sided fireplace, would need to make 2 of these!!

DeeDee1280 10-20-2011 05:14 PM

Now that, is a wonderful idea! Love Love Love it. I need one of those to keep the dust bunnies out! LOL

dkabasketlady 10-20-2011 05:15 PM

Cute! It sure beats the painted black board that we use to put in front of ours when we weren't using it. Very creative!

jillnjo 10-20-2011 05:16 PM

I am impressed with your creative quilt! It even looks warm!!

tebill 10-20-2011 05:27 PM

Thank you! I made little pockets on the backing with buttonholes that I could use to drop in a small magnet in each one. The backing went on last because of the hanging issue using magnets.

Daisey, I didn't have a pattern. I looked on the Internet at images of fireplaces and got some ideas from there.
