Andrea - your work always amazes me! Beautiful patterns & stitches! Thank you for sharing!

redhotnana 04-25-2011 08:27 PM

I am overwhelmed! If I practice from now till I die I will never be able to quilt like that! How long did it take you to get that good?

RobertaMarie 04-25-2011 08:50 PM

Andrea, your work is so wonderful. I don't know how you get such even, tiny stitches in those intricate patterns. It is absolutely beautiful. I hand quilt, but am not so consistent with the stitching. You are indeed a master of your art.
May you enjoy many years of doing your wonderful work.
God bless.

TacoMama 04-25-2011 08:55 PM

What a beautiful quilt you have started. The stitches are just maticulous!

Great-great Granny: I quilt in a 18" hoop on a stand, a Jasmine Easy Spinner.

Thank you, kwhite, for answering great-great granny's question about needlemarking! I already go to bed when you all in US are still awake...

Quiltincharlotte: Many of these traditional patters have names. The first picture is a variation of the "flat iron". You can see it often in North Country wholecloths from Durhham or Northumberland in UK. I have some books about these kind of quilts with many pictures, so I re-draw the patterns, sometimes add some details I like or change them a little. It is almost impossible to find stencils for these patterns. And yes, it's hand quilted.

Redhotnana: I started hand quilting in 1989 and specialized in wholecloths around 1995.

Thank you all or your nice comments and your encouragement! I will keep on posting pictures!

Your work just blows me away!!

My goodness, such neat and tidy stitches. Beautiful.

AnneT 04-26-2011 01:25 AM

Andrea,

when I saw the first pictures of your new quilt, I thought, it couldn't get any better, but boy, was I wrong...
The patterns with the leaves and ferns are beautiful beyond words. What a pity you are so far away from where I live.

Anne

Breath-takingly beautiful quilting. Do you mark the design as you go and if so how?

Borntohandquilt 04-26-2011 09:59 PM

Yes, I mark as I go. For this quilt I used needlemarking.

craftybear 04-26-2011 10:08 PM

I am very proud to say I have won 6 ribbons so far. We don't have judged quilt shows like in US and other countries and I have to send my quilts abroad which is quite expensive. But I plan to enter quilts in more competitions in the future. It's great to know that many interested visitor can see my work there....

:)

I use "regular" quilt solids with 44" width. Unfortunately the wide fabrics for backings that we can purchase here don't have the quality I want for my quilts and only very few colors.
I try to find a fabric that has a high thread count like 75. The P&B brand is great for me, also the Moda Bella Solids.

JanieH 04-27-2011 11:11 PM

That is awe-inspiring. Your quilting is amazing!

roselady 04-27-2011 11:20 PM

Andrea,
As always your work is beautiful. I definatly see some similarity to Welsh quilting in this quilt, I can't wait to try it.

Andrea, what do mean by cross hatching with a zig zag stitch? I have never heard of a zig zag stitch? Elizabeth

Yes. After finishing the center design I mark the border patterns first and fill in the background in the spare areas. The quilting I do from the center to the edges - that means for the first quarter I start quilting the background and go down the edges.
I found out that the fabric stays flat and won't get so bumpy when I quilt cross hatching in a zig-zag!

klarina 07-21-2011 03:03 PM
