Andrea - this is so gorgeous. You do such amazingly beautiful work...so inspiring! Im curious, do you make these for other people or just for your enjoyment? I would have a hard time giving something this grand away. :) As always, thank you so much for sharing your work. :)

Ramona Byrd 04-24-2011 08:08 AM

That can't be hand quilting.
It's absolutely stunning. Every stitch is the same. Love it, but
am not going to ever try to copy it, maybe after another 10 or 15 years of practice.

lisainmo 04-24-2011 08:09 AM

WOW!! I would love to try that, but after seeing yours not sure I would be able to do it justice! Amazing work!

bj 04-24-2011 08:09 AM

Harmony 04-24-2011 08:10 AM

I always look forward to your posts! This quilt looks like it's going to be a stunner, as are all your quilts! I want to come to Germany for a year so you can teach me how to do this!

Borntohandquilt 04-24-2011 08:12 AM

@Michele: yes, it's hand quilted.
@Suebee: I do my quilts mostly for my enjoyment and for quilt shows. Of course I also made some for family members or very good friends.

Your quilting is gorgeous. The stitches are so even and the design is so unique. You really have the gift.

Kitsie 04-24-2011 08:29 AM

Your Signature says it all - Andrea the handquilter! As I'm just beginning hand-quilting you are my new idol!!
Thank you for showing how it SHOULD look.

mimom 04-24-2011 08:35 AM

you are very good at it. I try but have troubles getting even stitches, I think I have the quilt too tight in the hoop

kwhite 04-24-2011 08:42 AM

As usual I love it. I don't see any marking on the quilt. Do you plan it out prior to starting or do you just wing it? How much marking do you do and how?

debcavan 04-24-2011 08:43 AM

Beautiful, just beautiful

DogHouseMom 04-24-2011 08:55 AM

For this quilt I use the method of needlemarking again. You don't see the markings any more when the quilting is finished, that is the reason why I prefer this method! Nothing to remove!
I have a plan (just in my mind...) which patterns I want to use and how to arrange them. For the first pattern ("flat iron") I have a selfmade half template for the oval shape and a small template for the rose at the bottom. The feathers and spirals are quilted free hand with almost no markings. The leaf in the second picture and the fern in the third are selfmade templates as well. The double lines are done freehand.

I like it a lot do quilt with only a few markings, that gives me plenty of freedom for designing during the process of quilting.

littleone 04-24-2011 09:27 AM

Hi Borntohandquilt

mir fliegen jedesmal die Schuhe weg.............
What kind of batting do you use for these wholequilts and how many years of practice does one need for tiny stitches like that??
