This is the very first quilt I made many years ago-as you can see, it has been WELL used and washed a million times! I'm game to show it, even though I cringe when I look at the hand-quilting! How about others posting their very first project (if you still have it!)

very nice quilt

That's a fantastic 1st quilt. Mine was ... uh ... er, lost in a move somewhere :)
|
Congratulations on a beautiful job!

Your first quilt is great! :)
|
Great first quilt obviously you are a natural. My 1st was a gift I was a sewer but it was a Very simple pattern not a sampler. Yours is still very beautiful!
|
Good job Sally-I admire those of you who take on a bed-sized quilt for the first one!! My second was a queen-but simple Irish chain with BIG blocks in between-only two colors-but after piecing and finishing about 1/2 the hand-quilting, I HATED it! I finally finished it after a 10-year hybernation in the bottom of the closed-only because I wanted to "practice" hand-quilting again before I made another quilt. It is the only quilt I didn't take a photo of!!! Think bright pink solid and black/pink rose print-with the same print for the backing! I actually used the same fabric for my appliance covers I just made (just posted pics of them)-doesn't look so bad in small doses!

This was my very first quilt. All hand pieced and hand quilted. I also made matching pillows. I hung the quilt above my family room sofa and put the pillows on each end. These were just the beginning of quite a few hand quilted that I had done. And I must say, I did better quilting by hand than my #@%@#$ machine quilts now. The picture with the pillows is much better for the color. The rocker was one my dad was rocked in when he was a baby. He's be 84 if he was still living. And this was my sons teddy bear. But I think a girlfriend gave it to him in high school. I'm a smuck when it comes to keeping things like these.

I like it!

Thanks for sharing,,, I enjoy looking at everyone's first quilting jobs :-)
|
Great job on your first quilt!! I think you did an amazing job on it.
I unfortunately don't have a picture of my first quilt (wallhanging actually) but I still have it is a log cabin wallhanging. |
You did a great job for first time!!! :-) :-)
|
All of them are beautiful first quilts.
I don't have any of my first ones. |
I really like your quilt! My first quilt has happily been lost in the mists of time. I wasn't all that committed to having points line up or too worried about puckers quilted into the backing. It was fine for my son to puke and do other unspeakable things on.
|
I don't have a pic of my first quilt, either. It's the one I made when my boys outgrew their receiving blankets. (I pieced them together for the backing.) My youngest is now 26. That quilt was used! The boys would tie it up with string and make tents from the bunk bed to the door handle, a chair, dresser knobs, etc. It didn't matter. Some nights it took 10+ minutes just to get the quilt in bed! They'd all pile in the same bed in the winter, and we'd pile the quilts on top.

very nice :)

I am not yet finished my first one (king sized; hand quilting) and I started it in 1996 or '97. Hand quilting is a mood thing for me and it gets set aside frequently so I can make other quilts. I AM more than half-way done, though!
|
That is beautiful! Honey my first one is so scary it will never be quilted! Nobody warned me about bias edges so I just cut out however I could get the most out of the fabric! Oh it is a dandy okay! Lives safely hidden ina closet. And no! I do not think it will be allowed to come out. That badddddddd. LOL

Beautiful. I'm working on a T-Shirt quilt for my son. Hope to put on this web soon.
|
Nice job and don't you just love a sampler?
|
A sampler for a first quilt is a wonderful idea.
My first quilt is already posted. |
My first quilt. Well it is still a top never been snadwiched or quilted because I was not taught how to at the time.
So busy now to go backwards. |
Great job!! I just love the apple block. :)
|
Sorry I don't have them but when my sons were little, I covered their old twin bed blankets with patchwork. Just squares of fabric and hand tacked them. My oldest son, age 50, still has his.
|
Dont have a picture of my first quilt, but ggs still has it. It was sail boats and he is now 18 and soon off to college. I am planning on making one he can take with him.
Ggd has hers pinned on her wall. |

I love this subject, I am a beginner quilter I made my first quilt and it was for my son. The pattern was "Wicked Easy" and it was but my fabrics were too many different colors. I used my stash, the quilt is fine but not for a man.

great quilt.......my first was sampler quilt too...
|
My very first quilts were baby quilts that I tied - gave all those away - no pictures even - duh! Then, I made several warm cozy thick comforter quilts that were tied; the only way I knew to make a quilt - and now since I retired, relocated into a community that is full of quilters and have a Long Arm quilter here also who does very good work, I use her for my quilt tops and she makes the most beautiful quilts for me - I've made 4 queen sized quilts, 2 twin sized and again several baby quilts and have more regular quilts in the works. I have 3 great niece and nephews to make twin-sized quilts for yet, and a queen sized for each niece (2) and then will start on making quilts for future use; whether they become cedar chest (hope chest) items for my two grandchildren, or if they become wedding gifts - but will stop quilting when I can no longer do so - which I hope will be a small eternity into the future! Just a happy quilter!

Here's my first quilt. I hand quilted it. Took me over 10 years because I'd put it down and not work on it for 6 months at a time! I was so happy when it was finally finished!

Lovely quilts!

It looks great to me and if your not pleased with your hand quilting just keep doing it and you'll be surprised the day you realize your quilting stitches look nice and even. Remember we all seem to have one stitch that has a little tweak to it that becomes our quiting signature. :D |
nice for your first quilt!
|
Very nice first quilt - great job!

This was my very first quilt. It was machine pieced and hand quilted (back when I was able to).

"Firsts" can be fun & fun to look back on! These are all great!
A few yrs ago a friend of mine talked me into hand quilting a baby quilt with her....I'm still not a fan of hand quilting. Fast forward to when I picked up quilting again, one of my "firsts" was a bargello. I'll take a pic tomorrow to see what you guys think of it. It was done with Christmas prints & has been in a tote since! Maureen |
Love seeing 'first quilts'. They are all a big step for us!
