My grandmother was an avid quilter and when she died there were 7 quilt tops all done and since I was the only quilter in the family, I got them. I have added borders on them all and quilted them for my grand children. I had one left and since my second daughter didn't have one I quilted this for her. Pieced by her great grandmother and quilted by her mother. Now tell me the truth. How does it look?

Hard to believe it is your first quilt on your longarm! Looks to me like you have been doing it for years! Beautiful work, I am impressed!

Zhillslady 09-08-2011 12:58 PM

Stunning

ruthie 09-08-2011 12:58 PM

thank you that does a lot for the confidence.

debcavan 09-08-2011 12:59 PM

It looks good. You will be shocked in a year how much faster you will be and how much more confident you will be. You have to build up that muscle memory and you will be more accurate and faster.

Wow, that is spectacular. Nice job. So sweet to pass on the quilt tops to the family.

Outstanding first time long0arm quilting; I too recently had an attempt at my first time, but wasn't able to accomplish much on limited time.

Quiltmaniac2010 09-08-2011 03:48 PM

It is hard to believe that this was your first longarm quilt!! Your quilting is amazing!!! That is so special that your daughter has a quilt that was made by her grandma and quilted by her mom! She will treasure it for sure.

redquilter 09-08-2011 03:49 PM

It's a wonderful quilt and you did an amazing job quilting it. You're off and running.

Baby Catcher 09-08-2011 03:50 PM

Wow! Thats great. Did you do that freehand? I just got a voyager 17 this week and haven't played much but my practice attempts look nothing like yours. Pointers please!

ditto

You are doing great! I, too, am learning to long arm and found that making smooth curves and spacing the motif evenly was by far the toughest thing - so I looked at both of those techniques in your quilt and you did them WAY better than I did! I'm on my 6th or 7th now and getting better all the time - you will too!

Nettie Phillips 09-08-2011 05:31 PM

QUILTNMO 09-08-2011 05:55 PM

great job you did very good

TrenbeathRanch 09-08-2011 05:57 PM

The very first quilt that I ever did on my longarm was a simple meander...your first effort is extremely impressive! If you can do this kind of work now, you'll be a master of your machine in no time. Well done!

sewingladydi 09-08-2011 05:57 PM

The quilting looks great. Hard to believe it's your first

angiecub 09-08-2011 06:33 PM

Perfect. Everything a quilt should be.

ruthie 09-08-2011 06:35 PM

Thanks everyone for your kind remarks. To answer the questions, yes, it is all freehand. I just did a freehand feather with echoing and swirls and pinwheels and some grasslike thingys for fill. I had a good time doing it and am excited to do more. I find I really like this part of quilting much more than piecing.

alikat110 09-08-2011 06:36 PM

looks perfect!!!!

Peggy Jeanne 09-08-2011 06:37 PM

You did a very good job, can not wait to see the next one!
