Here is my first quilt, I just finished it today. Let me know what you think.

I know that there is mistakes. My biggest problem was the binding. It looks horrible to me. I may take it off and try again.

Thanks for looking.

What a fun and colorful quilt. The first one is always so special!:)

dpparris 03-26-2011 04:34 PM

Beautiful I love the colors.

cakebaker 03-26-2011 04:34 PM

Very pretty. I think I would leave the binding alone, and learn from it. It dosen't look that bad.

tucsonquilter 03-26-2011 04:36 PM

The first one is always special and you will cherish this. Great choice on the happy colors.

Vanuatu Jill 03-26-2011 04:36 PM

Well Done!! I love the decorative stitching too! I wouldn't change the binding despite any "flaws"-I love the idea of the "first quilt" staying as is-then years from now and many quilts later, you will cherish that first one, flaws and all, as the start of this wonderful hobby! You should see how bad mine was!! (I actually posted a pic of it a while back!!)

NikkiLu 03-26-2011 04:37 PM

Very unique quilt! Looks like some very special stitches along the "ditches". Keep on truckin!

VickyS 03-26-2011 04:37 PM

Cute. You may want to wash the quilt first and see what happens to the binding before you try to redo it.

I had the same thing happen to one of mine and the ripple almost disappeared after washing (enough to where I didn't care about it any more!) No QUILT POLICE to say bad or good!

Nice colors and effect of your pattern. Time to try another one!

I think you did a wonderful job for your first quilt.

lydialee 03-26-2011 04:56 PM

Thanks for all of your praise. I enjoyed making it, and already have my next one started can't wait to to start sewing it tomorrow.

Midwestmary 03-26-2011 05:26 PM

Very nice job! I'd leave the binding - it really doesn't look that bad - and the first quilt is very special :) You did a very nice job with your piecing as well. Thx for sharing!

patchsamkim 03-26-2011 05:27 PM

Very nice for a first quilt...really great colors...as for the binding...as it is your first quilt, I would probably just leave it, and learn more as you do your next one.

Jingle 03-26-2011 05:44 PM

Very pretty and bright, great colors.

debcavan 03-26-2011 05:45 PM

People will be so busy looking at the wonderful colors to notice a binding. I gave a beginning quilt to a friend. It was aweful. She has saved it so her son can use it for his son. She sees no flaws only beauty

Ah ha! The world of quilting has snagged another one!

Very good job on your first one! I agree -- wash it and see what happens, then decide. Only work again on the binding if it still bothers you in a month....time heals many troubles.

bamamama 03-26-2011 06:09 PM

Cute. You did good!

stacey65 03-26-2011 06:10 PM

You did an awesome job on your first quilt, you should be very proud of it. Love your color choices. I would leave the binding on this quilt the way it is. I hope you will share your new quilt when you are finished.

The colors are so bright and cheerful. Perhaps there is a tutorial on binding here on the board. I know I cut 2.5 inch strips and fold them in half lengthwise. Then I sew the raw edge to the raw edge of the quilt and wrap the binding around to the other side. Hand or machine stitch it down. Is the binding on this one double? I can't see it well enough, but it looks like a single layer and not finished on the edge. It will just fray like crazy if that is the case. Your first effort for a quilt is amazing. There is a bunch of good advice here.

lynnsim 03-26-2011 07:02 PM

You did a great job, especially for a 1st quilt.

lydialee 03-26-2011 07:08 PM

Thanks for all of your very kinds words of encouragement. I was kind of worried about the bright colors for a baby quilt. Hopefully my niece will like them too.

I think I will leave the binding for now, and try to do better on the next quilt. Now that I know what I have done wrong, it will be so much easier..

Thanks for being so helpful. What a wonderful group of people quilters are.

This is what I would say, also. I have always had trouble with bindings, and when I look back at my first quilts, I am amazed that they are actually still together. But, I am getting better, and have to do less "unsewing" now. Keep up the good work and remember that we see our flaws, others see the beauty.

darlin121 03-26-2011 09:01 PM

I think your hooked! Hope to see more of your quilts soon.

Jim's Gem 03-26-2011 10:34 PM

Great job on your first quilt!

pamkasperi 03-27-2011 12:17 AM

I really like it - are all the square poofy or do they just look that way in the picture?

justlooking 03-27-2011 03:46 AM

Nice Quilt, I won't change it.

SuziC 03-27-2011 03:56 AM

emerald46 03-27-2011 03:57 AM

I love the bright and happy colors. Good job first time out!

sueven 03-27-2011 03:58 AM

Very pretty. The colors are great.

diannemc 03-27-2011 04:00 AM

Love it! The colors are so fun...

Laura3 03-27-2011 04:02 AM

Very good job on your first quilt! I would also leave the binding, you will get better at it with every quilt. My good friend told me that if I kept ripping out what I didn't like or wasn't perfect I would never finish anything.

Good Luck and Have fun on your next one!!
