I did my first foundation-pieced quilt using a diamond pattern. Actually, I found the fabric for the border (a Laurel Burch design) and had to come up with a quilt to match! After I finished piecing the top, I took a free-motion quilting class, so I took the plunge and did a swirly pattern for the quilting with variegated thread. Some of swirls aren't very "smooth", but overall it came out OK. Instructor recommended choosing busy pattern for backing, so that your quilting mistakes aren't as obvious ... so I did!

Your quilt is lovely! Color choices blend very well. I took a class in string quilting couple of years at Smoky Mountain Quiltfest in Pigeon Forge TN. REally enjoyed it. No seams to match took the stress out of the factor and made it fun. Did you put batting in it or just use the foundation as your "filling"? Mine is still in the "unconstructed" stage. Top done and backing chosen, just not quilted yet. My colors were fall choices. I think very nice as its my favorite time of the year. I appliqued some fall leaves in the border also.

Nice work!

I LOVE IT!!! aren't string quilt fun? i quilt for a lady who makes them all the time...she always sends a good backing and thick batting, her queen/king size quilts weigh about 10 pounds when they are done! (maybe not really but they are really heavy! and i'm sure amazingly warm!) i heard someone say one time, i don't like quilts, they do not keep you warm...i thought...wow, really? mine do ;)

Very nice. I like the bright colors.
