I have a friend that needed a baby quilt for a new grandson in Ohio. The room theme was "Under the Sea" with pastel blues and greens and a bit of dark blue. Try as I may from my stash, the only thing that struck me was these deeper tones. And as luck would have it, she loved it too. This is the same pattern I've used before in another quilt for her, which she was very happy with, and wanted to have again for this quilt. It finished out at 33"x45", warm and natural cotton batting, hand sewn binding, and free motion quilting around the fishies and on some of the background in the main blocks as well as stitch-in-the-ditch elsewhere.

Love the quilt and bag! Gorgeous!
So bright and cheery. Sure to be baby's favorite. The new mom is going to love that matching bag!
Beautiful
very bright & colorful - baby will 'drool' over it! Like the tote bag too - handy for mommy for all the things she'll be carting around.
Love the design and the colors. Great job
Beautiful. Is that your quilting following the design? Really helps to bring out the fish motif!
Yeah for bright colors! Baby will love them!
Yes, I did free motion around all the fish and sea creatures in the blocks in the center and in the outside border. I also did some stitching on the background drawing of coral and things in the center blocks to make it "pop". My free motion gets a little out of control sometimes, but not too bad, and I'm learning to stay closer to what I'm trying to outline.
(Still learning on here, too lol) This was in response to the comment from fleurdelisquilts.com |

Your fabric colors are right on genius. I have these very same fabrics and I wouldn't think of putting them together, good eye. Fish are one of my favorites to make, too.

Just way too cute - great job!

Very appropriate and pretty!

The fish seem to be gliding past the coral and come alive. Beautiful choice of the deeper blue for the blue lines. Thanks for sharing!
that is so cute

I love the bright colors and the baby will too. Color is a great teaching tool. Her grandson is very lucky.

I used the fish fabric and made fishbowls for out daughter. She is off to college and has wanted a fish tank. So I figured as long as life is a roller coaster I would give her a fishbowl quilt. She loves it. I just applicade the bowls on white back ground with dark blue sashing all around.
Yours is lovely. Wish I would have taken the time to do some free motions around hers. K |
